I just couldn’t connect with this despite enjoying the author’s previous works

The Raven Spell by Luanne G. Smith

September 2, 2022 by Mobius_Walker Leave a Comment

BINGO – Gaslight Sisters Edwina and Mary Blackwood have to move around quite a bit. Any time their neighbors catch wind of what they really are, they must move. Witches aren’t the most tolerated group of people in Victorian England (hence the gaslight). Edwina has the innate ability to find shiny objects and her sister Mary can capture the memories of morals which she only tries to do right before they pass on. Unfortunately Mary accidentally took the memories of a detective who was not […]

A comfortable, enjoyable conclusion to an overall fun trilogy

The Conjurer by Luanne G. Smith

The Conjurer is the third and final installment in the Vine Witch series. All three women, Elena the vine witch, Yvette the fee, and Sidra the jinni, who bound their fates together in a fateful jail cell are back, this time to aid Sidra whether they want to or not. Sidra and Yvette are ousted from the Fee lands by Yvette’s grandfather and king and transplanted to Sidra’s old hometown. Elena is visited by Sidra’s brother-in-law Jamra who is hellbent on revenge for the murder of […]

Ehhh, it was fine, but a lot of the magic was lost from the first

The Glamourist by Luanne G. Smith

December 12, 2020 by Mobius_Walker Leave a Comment

I really enjoyed the first book in this series The Vine Witch. Interesting magic, self-contained story, solid pacing, believable romance, fun mix of characters. The Glamourist, the second entry in The Vine Witch series, loses a lot of the fun and magic of the first book. While still a self-contained story which I greatly appreciate, The Glamourist lacks focus and fails to add anything interesting to the stories of characters that stick around. It’s– fine. Vine witch and potion master, Elena Boureanu, finds herself in Paris with her […]

A refreshingly complete story to start a magical series

The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith

August 26, 2020 by Mobius_Walker Leave a Comment

Elena is a toad, though she knows she knows that she should be a witch. Thus starts The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith. Elena breaks the curse on herself and returns to her home, Chateau Renard, a famed vineyard in France. What she finds is that her home has been sold to a lawyer-turned-winemaker who, instead of relying on a vine witch to support and augment the growth, harvest, and fermentation of grapes into wine, relies on science to create his wine to disappointing […]

Okay Start to New Series

The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith

October 22, 2019 by Classic 2 Comments

So this wasn’t a bad book, I just had a hard time sticking with it. The writing at times pushed me out of the story and the book starts to feel really predictable after a while. I loved the cover, and loved the idea of vine witches though. I just don’t know if I would read the next book in this series or not. “The Vine Witch” starts off with a woman named Elena Boureanu finally breaks a curse that has kept her hibernated (or whatever […]
