We can’t have change without loss

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb

October 26, 2020 by Sophia Leave a Comment

My interest in psychology has increased recently, as I’ve wondered whether therapy might be good for me. I stumbled upon a Youtube channel called Psychology in Seattle with Dr. Kirk Honda. It was both interesting and informative, and Honda constantly reminds his listeners what a difference therapy can make in people’s lives. About the same time, I found Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb on NPR’s Best Books of 2019 List. This book gave me more insight into therapy and therapists. Finally, I have a relatively high-stress job, […]

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb

CBR12 Bingo: Cannonballer Says Man, am I thankful I read and took to heart ardaigle’s glowing review of this book. I had this checked out from my library before I even finished reading the review. And I really loved it. Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is kind of hard to summarize. It’s about Lori Gottlieb’s career path that led her to becoming a psychologist. It’s about her own experiences being in therapy when she was going through a personal crisis. It’s about some of […]

Maybe You Should (EVERYONE SHOULD) Read This Book! (Bingo – Happy)

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed by Lori Gottlieb

Well hellooooo. I am three reviews behind which for me is an albatross of sorts that I let guilt me into not reading until I get caught up, because um, reasons?? What an appropriate book to HAPPILY dive back in with, a bit of psychotherapy. This might be my favorite book of the year WHICH MAKES ME HAPPY. I’m presently in therapy and think everyone could benefit from it. If you are similar, than you’ll likely take to this book like a duck to water. […]

Right book, right time.

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb

April 17, 2020 by narfna 2 Comments

Right book, right time. I sat down with Maybe You Should Talk to Someone first thing Saturday morning, and late Sunday morning I finished it. I really didn’t mean to finish it so fast, but I would put it down for a break and then my fingers would reach for it on their own, and I just kept reading. This book is half memoir, recalling Gottlieb’s time in therapy following a painful and unexpected breakup, and half non-fiction, recounting several of Gottlieb’s own therapy patients […]

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, Her Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed by Lori Gottlieb

Here’s my main takeaway from  this book, and it’s one that I think will help people (it’s certainly something I had never really considered but ought to have): therapists are not one size fits all. Most people can benefit from therapy, whether for a short period of time or long-term, but it’s important to find the right person. I tried therapy for a few weeks last year, felt I was attending a lecture for an hour once a week that had nothing to do with […]
