A late 80s-romance novel helps me cross off another square (double bingo)

Viscount Vagabond by Loretta Chase

October 2, 2020 by Malin Leave a Comment

2.5 stars #CBR12 Bingo: Shelfie   Official book description: Catherine Pelliston simply would not abide by her father’s wishes and marry the slovenly Lord Browdie. But her escape through the streets of London only seemed to lead her from bad to worse. First, she was robbed. And then, her supposed “rescue” by a kindly old woman stranded Catherine in a bordello — where the handsome Viscount Rand was intent on sampling her wares! A dire predicament indeed-especially when the dashing aristocrat decided to assume full […]

What to read if you just want to watch The Mummy again

Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase

February 22, 2020 by Nart 4 Comments

New, of course, being a bit of a misnomer since the book was published in 2005, but if you haven’t read it it’ll be new to you. It is impossible to read this book and not see the parallels to the Mummy. If you haven’t seen the Mummy, stop what you’re doing and go watch it. It holds up and this review will be incomprehensible to you otherwise. The book follows Daphne, one of the most renown language scholars in the world, as she gets […]

In which it turns out that I DO like kissing books

Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase

May 6, 2019 by TheShitWizard 8 Comments

Despite not really reading romance novels, I couldn’t help but notice some Cannonball discussions in which this one was mentioned a bunch of times. I’m super glad that I lurked on those threads as, although I hadn’t really been sure if romance was my flavour, it turned out that I absolutely loved Lord of Scoundrels, which was the most fun I’ve had reading this year. Jessica Trent’s brother is a nincompoop. A nincompoop who’s managing to fritter away his fortune with his high society friends, […]

Romance and adventure in Egypt

November 30, 2018 by Sophia 1 Comment

It was another Cannonball review that had me putting Mr. Impossible (2005) by Loretta Chase on hold at the library. I was sold at the description of the hero as a brunette Chris Hemsworth, and I love adventurous romances, so I figured it was right up my alley. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it quite as much as I was hoping. There were definitely good parts, but I never really got into it. Daphne Pembroke and her brother Miles are researching the ancient tombs and languages in 1821 […]

Clothes Horse Meets Fashion Don’t

August 6, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Bingo Square: Brain Candy With this, I have now completed Loretta Chase’s Carsington Family series, even if I saved the first of the series for last!  This was another solid entry, though there is barely even a mention of Rupert in this novel beyond being lumped in as one of Alistair’s younger brothers (and the one with the grey horses). What can I say, Mr. Impossible remains my favorite of the series, and I am sure it has nothing to do with the fact that […]

They’re All Grown Up

July 30, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Peregrine and Olivia have known each other since they were children when his uncle and her mother fell in love in Lord Perfect.  Peregrine has spent most of that time in Egypt with Rupert (my favorite, be still my heart :p ) with only a few short trips home over the years.  As a result, Peregrine is rather surprised to discover that his dramatic, slightly awkward but lively friend has become the most beautiful woman in the room.  Olivia has always felt great affection towards […]
