Maybe the series gets better?

Whose Body? by Dorothy L. Sayers

August 13, 2023 by KimMiE" 2 Comments

CBR15 BINGO: Bodies, Bodies because it’s right there in the title (and also because of the dead body) Being on a renewed Agatha Christie kick lately, I thought I’d switch things up a bit and read my first ever Dorothy Sayers, one of the other queens of the Golden Age of Detective fiction. I’d heard about the Lord Peter Wimsey series and thought it sounded right up my alley. I hate to say it, but this novel proved to be quite a slog. The mystery […]

The Knowledge of Good and Evil is Removable

August 3, 2017 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I’ve been reading this while walking my dog. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t grab me until 67% of the way in. I think I’ve read at least a dozen graphic novels while plodding my way through this. I reached the point where I couldn’t put it down when it shifted from a mystery with no obvious solution to a cat and mouse game between Lord Peter and the murderer. This was the passage that finally grabbed me. There is a game in which one […]

Lord Peter Wimsey finds love

December 30, 2015 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

Busman’s Holiday: noun. A vacation or form of recreation that involves doing the same thing that one does at work. So, a few books before this one, Lord Peter saved a lady named Harriet from a murder charge. I haven’t read that book yet, so I have no idea what happened. But during the investigation, apparently they developed feelings. Of the lovey kind. So, now, however many books later, they are married. The newlyweds decide to rent a house in the country, and have some […]

Lord Peter Wimsey book 1

December 30, 2014 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

Lord Peter Wimsey gets a call from his mother (the Dowager Duchess of Denver, say that 5 times fast), to tell him of some troubles a man of her acquaintance is having. Seems he found a dead body in his tub. The police think he (Thipps) did it, or maybe his servant. Lord Peter thinks otherwise, and starts poking around. He’s also working on the disappearance of Sir Reuben Levy, a financier. While all this is going on, there’s a bunch of trading in Peruvian oil. […]
