Same therapist, wrong answers?

Work-Life Balance by Aisha Franz

January 3, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The graphic novel Work-Life Balance by Aisha Franz and translated from German by Nicholas Houde is an Emotion Book. Not an emotional book, but an Emotion Book. Well, it is both. You come away with feels after you see the feelings, actions, and missactions of the four characters of Franz’s book. Some of those feelings are good, some bad, some really icky, and some are “What The Flaming Monkey Toots” did I just experience????   The art (according to the publisher description) is “striking” and I […]

Rabbit go home

Watership Down: The Graphic Novel by James Sturm

December 1, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Watership Down: The Graphic Novel adapted by James Sturm and illustrated by Joe Sutphin took Richard Adams’ novel and made it into a lovely book about the power of the people, and lovely illustrations that show the good and the darkness around them. The story is the one you know and maybe loved as a child, but I was fresh to the story for the most part. I knew that there would be rabbits and people had said it was dark, but other than that, I had […]

Animals Rule This Land by Luke Milton

November 7, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The only reason I am reviewing Animals Rule This Land by Luke Milton is because I know someone will appreciate this, while having some clever moments but overall violent situations which can be downright oogy moments and which can really be a turn-off, graphic novel due mid-March 2024. The concept is when animals rule, humans drool. Or worse. Like getting dead worse. Therefore, if you are warped (and I mean that with much love), go for it. Though teens can read, I won’t recommend it […]

Warfare of soccer at Bull Run Regional Park (and other stuff)

Team Photograph by Lauren Haldeman

October 26, 2023 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

What the flaming monkey toots did I just read? Or more accurately, took me a few days to read. Team Photograph is an artist’s interpretation of Lauren Haldeman’s experiences and feelings. When I first finished the online (though currently available) reader copy, I was thinking, “Is Team Photograph a memoir? An attempt at purging the feelings she has about death? Is it a commentary on war and the resulting death that will haunt people if they are aware of it? Or is it just a […]

This never quite came together for me, but it was interesting along the way.

Flux by Jinwoo Chong

October 19, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

This is an interesting book that is ultimately not really for me, though it has some things going on that made me glad I read it. Even though it left me unsatisfied and mostly puzzled as to what the point was, I never wanted to stop reading (listening) to it, and I was fully engaged the whole time, which is not something you can say for a lot of three-star books. I put off writing this review very much on purpose because I was hoping […]

Elementary, my dear reader

Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock (Who Wrote Classics)  by Linda Bailey

September 19, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Ages ago I found an online reader link to a book. It looked interesting, but not one I wanted to read right away. I put it in my saved links and forgot about it, until one day I was going through those saved links and found Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock (Who Wrote Classics) by Linda Bailey again. It is a clever telling of the life and times of the author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The narrator tells us this story as if the two of us (narrator […]
