A lady doctor!?!?

Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas

June 8, 2019 by Sophia 1 Comment

I had a long drive when I went on my latest backpacking trip, so I picked up some books on tape to help me through it. The one I ended up listening to was Hello Stranger (2018) by Lisa Kleypas. I’ve read a number of Kleypas’s books and knew what to expect. On the whole, this one was a good distraction while driving. The characters were likable, but I never got too attached. Part of this may be because it was on tape. I think I take […]

The best in the series so far. This is more like it, Ms. Kleypas

Devil's Daughter by Lisa Kleypas

This is the fifth book in the Ravenels series. While you don’t have to have read the previous books in the series, it would probably enhance your enjoyment and make you more familiar with most of the cast of characters. While you also don’t NEED to have read it, you really should read Devil in Winter, because it’s a classic of the genre, and will give you more insight in some of the supporting characters here. Plot summary from Goodreads, because I finished this book over a month […]

The Necco Wafer of Brain Candy

November 26, 2018 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

Cbr10bingo Brain Candy For the “Not in my Wheelhouse” square on my bingo card, I reviewed the romance novel The Hating Game, a CBR favorite but not one of mine. In that review, I indicated that I had read another romance novel that I disliked even more than that one, and ladies and gentlemen, here it is. Secrets of a Summer Night is an historical romance, and I thought that the historical part would make up for some of the romance parts that left me […]

SO let’s just start this by saying I’m an asshole who used to judge Romance. Not romance, like flowers and candy (except don’t ever buy me either, please) but Romance with a capital R. The Romance with the swooning damsels and charming rakes and heaving bosoms and covers like this:  I judged the shit out of it. Starting when I was a kid and I first noticed my mom’s drugstore paperback Harlequin novels lying around. UGH I would exclaim WHY DON’T YOU JUST READ A […]

Oh, Lisa Kleypas, I keep hoping…

March 12, 2018 by Malin 1 Comment

Doctor Garrett Gibson is the only female physician in England, trained in France and licenced before they got around to changing the rules so other women couldn’t follow her example. She has a good job, working as a staff physician at Winterborne’s department store. She also does pro bono work in the poorer parts of town, and it’s on her way home from one of these jobs that she finds herself accosted by three thugs. While she’s been trained in self defence, things start take […]

Sebastian!

January 11, 2018 by Rachie3879 11 Comments

The best (or at least my favorite) romance novel I have ever read is Lisa Kleypas’ Devil in Winter. It features Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent, the best rake ever, and Evangeline Jenner, a wonderful wallflower. Their unlikely union was apparently a fruitful one and now Kleypas has picked Sebastian and Evie’s son Gabriel to star in the third of her new series on the Ravenels, Devil in Spring. Gabriel is much like his father in many ways – incredibly good looking, experienced with the ladies, […]
