Catching up with the Ravenels

Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas

Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas

August 25, 2025 by Jen K 5 Comments

When I first started getting into romance about 10 years ago (it was during a deployment when I also transitioned to being primarily an ebook reader), Lisa Kleypas, Tessa Dare, Courtney Milan and Sarah MacLean were my entry authors (have to start high – also, thanks, Malin). Sarah MacLean at some point stopped being an auto-buy for me because her characters always felt so angsty, Tessa Dare has unfortunately not published anything in a while and somehow I fell behind on Lisa Kleypas with her […]

A trio of historical book club reads

A Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas

A Night to Surrender by Tessa Dare

The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley

December 31, 2024 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I’ve read three excellent historical romances this year thanks to The Ripped Bodice’s book clubs. First up was my first Lisa Kleypas novel, A Devil in Winter, part of her popular Wallflower series. In this entry, said wallflower Evie propositions a right scoundrel to marry her. A veritable playboy, Sebastian isn’t most women’s first choice. However, the devilishly handsome viscount will keep her terrible relatives away from her. As he needs money, he reluctantly agrees and whisks her away to Scotland to be wed. Through […]

Where we don’t even need to have a Ravenel, just stay w/these characters please

Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas

Devil's Daughter by Lisa Kleypas

Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas

Devil in Disguise by Lisa Kleypas

October 12, 2022 by NTE 3 Comments

Here’s part two of my Ravenel series wrap-up. Reminder that here be spoilers aplenty, and that if you just need somebody to tell you the books are worth your time, you have it. Feel free to come back to discuss after you’ve read them. Now I know I said in my previous post that the internet favorite was Marrying Winterborne, and that all the praise that’s been heaped upon it was well-deserved. I stand by that. But my personal favorite of the Ravenel series is […]

Where Hype is Well-Deserved

Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas

Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas

Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas

October 12, 2022 by NTE 2 Comments

I zipped my way through the Ravenels, a choice made completely dependent on the fact that Fated Mates was going to be doing a show on Marrying Winterborne, and I wanted in on the hype. It’s such well-deserved hype though, guys. If you’re a historical romance reader, and you haven’t read a Lisa Kleypas book, I’m confused about what you ARE reading, quite honestly. Because Kleypas is a Queen Bee of the genre, and that’s not just my opinion. But it is definitely my opinion. […]

“I’ll take your bet,” he said grimly. “I’m going to win it. And in three months, I’m going to put this back on your finger, and take you to bed, and do things to you that are outlawed in the civilized world.”

Devil in Winter (Wallflowers, #3) by Lisa Kleypas

I can see why this is a lovable book. I think Kleypas basically caught lightning in a bottle with her two main characters, Evie and Sebastian, but I don’t have faith that she can recreate the magic in other books, so I probably won’t be reading any of her other stuff. I’m glad I finally read this one, though, even if I didn’t think it was A M A Z I N G or anything. The plot here is that Evangeline Jenner needs to marry […]

In Defense of Dane, the Boyfriend Who Wouldn’t “Man Up”

Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas

February 8, 2022 by Emmalita 6 Comments

A conversation elsewhere got me thinking about one of my original autobuy romance authors, Lisa Kleypas. The Fated Mates podcast celebrates Derek Craven Day every February, and it’s been so long since I read Dreaming of You that I don’t remember why he was so great. And I’m not going to refresh my memory anytime soon, because it takes a lot to get me to read a historical romance these days. This year, the Kleypas conversation got into her contemporaries and I was reminded that […]
