Loveable Like Regarding Henry and Overboard

March 6, 2015 by Melina Leave a Comment

I had a whirlwind romance. I met my husband, proposed to him at 4 months and was married in Vegas by 6 six months. Being pragmatic, I only spent $35.99 on the wedding, you know, just in case it didn’t work out.  He’s the peas to my carrots, the beat to my melody, and while I occasionally want to throttle him;it’s been a pretty magical 9 years. So, when reading this book I could draw some parallels because I am happily married with three […]

Like High School, all over again.

February 3, 2015 by scootsa1000 6 Comments

Like Julia Roberts at every single awards show, I’m gonna go ahead and make this review all about me. You see, I am a stay-at-home mom with three kids in elementary school. I am the room mother for the kindergarten class. I live in a suburb just outside of Washington DC that is equal parts hard-working folks who are doing ok and CRAZY MONEY PEOPLE. Lots of other moms at school come to volunteer dressed to the nines — in outfits straight off the runway, […]

Lifetime movie fodder

January 12, 2015 by janniethestrange Leave a Comment

For quite a while now this book came up on my recommendations on Amazon and Goodreads. Reviewers on #cbr7 were enthusiastic. A friend breathlessly insisted I add it to the stack of books for the year. When the kindle price came down, I pounced. In an Australian seaside town, children and parents alike converge upon a primary school for the introductory day of kindergarten. A chance meeting brings together three mothers, the “glittery girl” Madeline, the beautiful and wealthy Celeste and newcomer and single mother […]

Oh Just Read The Damn Book Already

January 9, 2015 by ModernLove 7 Comments

I didn’t want to like this book. I went into it planning how I was going to be apologetic in my review; I tried, but it just wasn’t my thing. I’d seen it pop up in my Amazon recs, on a few year end lists. I read the summary. I thought it was going to be “Mommy Lit,” those books about rich, white mommies who have problems with cheating husbands and thieving maids and out of control children. This just isn’t for me, I thought, buying the $3.99 […]

Just read this damn book

January 7, 2015 by Caitlin_D 4 Comments

Well, it took me a little longer to get through than badkittyuno took to get through (two days, not one evening) but Big Little Lies has set a high bar for my second Cannonballread. I had never heard of this book until my sister was returning it to our mutual friend on Sunday before stopping to ask if I wanted to shot at it first. I’m glad I said yes! At the start of the book there is a murder at a local Elementary school […]

450 pages in one evening…that’s a good book!

January 5, 2015 by badkittyuno 5 Comments

This book was so. freaking. good. Just go read it. The book starts with a murder at a fundraising event for an elementary school called Pirriwee Public in Australia. Then we back up six months and meet the characters. “Glittery girl” Madeline has a teenager daughter with her ex, whose child with his new yoga-loving wife is in Madeline’s youngest (with her new husband)’s kindergarten class. Then there’s gorgeous, wealthy Celeste and her twin boys, also in the same class. And new to the area Jane, who is […]
