The best LGBTQ romance series I’ve read, despite all the hockey (dear god, so much hockey)

Breakaway by Avon Gale

Save of the Game by Avon Gale

Power Play by Avon Gale

Empty Net by Avon Gale

Coach’s Challenge by Avon Gale

I’ve been a lifelong romance reader (I started reading my mother’s Jude Deveraux and Judy Garland paperbacks when I was 13), but for the past few months I’ve been really into reading LGBTQ romance, specifically m/m romance. I started with the gold standards, Sarina Bowen/Elle Kennedy’s “Him,” N.R. Walker’s “The Weight of It All,” Christina Lauren’s “Autoboyography,” and then Sarina Bowen’s “The Understatement of the Year” before I started searching out other authors/books. Kindle Unlimited has a lot of options, and most of them are…not […]

Lucy Lennox is a prolific ebook author of m/m gay romance. She has written two series, Made Marian and Forever Wilde, about two huge families filled with gay men. She has also collaborated with other authors on several standalone series. I’ve read them all, and rather than review them individually I decided to just review each series. This is her first series, Made Marian. It centers on the Marian family from San Francisco. The Marians have six biological children, three of whom are gay. When […]

Murder with Political Consequences in Steampunky World Equals Cutest Romance Story Ever

July 17, 2018 by CoffeeShopReader 2 Comments

I don’t like romance novels; they’re just not my thing. Unless the love story is mixed in with something else. In the case of Witchmark, that something else is a rather steam-punk/gas-lamp setting medical/political mystery. It’s Edwardian England sort of, and post some kind of nasty war effort that the protagonist Dr. Miles Singer had some role in. Because of his war experience he decided to work as a psychiatrist at a local hospital where he apparently specializes in treating veterans. The hospital is being […]

You can never go home again

September 5, 2017 by Lane Leave a Comment

This is book four in the Spires series but they are only very loosely connected and can be read in any order. This is my favorite of the series and actually one of my favorite romances ever, I’m not even sure why, but it connects with me on every level and it is just so stinking charming. From the Amazon description: Alfie Bell is . . . fine. He’s got a six-figure salary, a penthouse in Canary Wharf, the car he swore he’d buy when […]

Sweet Dom Wins Me Over

July 26, 2017 by Lane Leave a Comment

This book surprised me. I would not have picked it up on its own (BDSM, contemporary, May/Decemberish)  but it was part of a loose series (Spires) that I had really enjoyed up to this point, and I have started trusting Alexis Hall in general, so I read it and really kind of loved it. Laurie is a sub in the bedroom but out of it he is a successful doctor in his late thirties (I think he is thirty nine but I might not be […]

Paranormal Romance for Those Who Enjoy Such Things

March 24, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 3 Comments

This review required a little research from me on the genre distinction between paranormal and fantasy, so I could resolve that Widdershins is the former. The first in a series, which takes its name from the main characters, this paranormal romance features a couple interacting with occult forces and things that go bump in the night. I would recommend Widdershins, even though it was not my cup of tea. It was fun, but I like significantly less violence and prefer a dearth of imaginary creatures […]
