Starting the year off right

January 1, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 8 Comments

3.5 stars. It’s always nice to start the year off with something good, so I’m pleased to report that this one actually mostly lived up to the hype. I’ve been meaning to read Leigh Bardugo for years and finally got around to it. Six of Crows ended up being great company to ring in the new year with. Essentially, this book is about a gang of criminals pulling off a high stakes heist. Picture a teenage, fantasy version of Ocean’s Eleven and you’re close. Except […]

Slasher Girls and Monster Boys

August 8, 2017 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

This collection contains lots of great horror stories. They are written by some really awesome YA authors as well. Sorry, I’m tired, so I’m going to direct you to my blog for more information. You can read my full review here.

The Trick to Falling

June 22, 2017 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I go through phases of reading YA fantasy. I have come to realize that for the most part I age the characters up in my mind, because they rarely seem like teenagers. While I was in the middle of reading Six of Crows, I listened to The Dollop episode 275, “The Newsie Strike.” As a Dave and Gareth were marveling over 8 – 16 year old boys organizing and leading a strike, and understanding the economic theory behind each side’s position. It reminded me that […]

It will be nice working with proper villains again

February 14, 2017 by kdm 8 Comments

Not gonna lie, I first picked up this book based purely on the cover and those gorgeous black edges: Seriously, it’s one of the most beautiful books I’ve seen in a while.  But every time I picked it up in store, I hesitated to buy it based on the fact that it’s set in the same world as Bardugo’s previous Grisha trilogy, which I haven’t read yet.  So instead I bought Shadow and Bone – the first in that series and recommended by pretty much […]

No mourners, no funerals

December 25, 2016 by Malin Leave a Comment

Spoiler warning! There will be some spoilers for Six of Crows and Ruin and Rising, the final book in Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy in this review. There will also be some spoilers about the ending of this book, which means it’s best to avoid this whole review until you’ve read both these excellent books (and possibly the Grisha trilogy as well.) Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn’t think they’d survive. But instead of divvying up a […]

The deal is the deal

December 25, 2016 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars From Goodreads: Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price – and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone… A convict with a thirst for revenge A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager A runaway with a privileged past A spy known as the Wraith […]
