Oy, With the Poodles Already

January 8, 2017 by Caitlin_D 2 Comments

I was a die-hard Gilmore Girls fan as a teenager and while the show waned in its final seasons I was enthusiastic about the Netflix reboot this November. Unfortunately, I found the reboot to be lacking but my love for Lauren Graham and her alter ego Lorelai will never falter. I disagree with her opinions on the musical within the show, but I forgive her for having emotionally clouded judgement. Should they bring the series back for another round of episodes I will lower my expectations, […]

Everything I wanted (but didn’t get) from the Gilmore Girls revival

January 2, 2017 by badkittyuno 4 Comments

I am and always will be a huge fan of Gilmore Girls. I started watching the show when it premiered and as a nerdy brunette who loves to read, who was also the same age as Rory Gilmore, I identified with her strongly — despite the fact that my mother is a good thirty years older than I am. I love and cherish the show and still re-watch it every six months or so. The last couple of seasons aren’t so great, but they’re forgivable […]

Fast Talking Fun

January 1, 2017 by Beth Ellen 6 Comments

So I was pretty much the perfect age for Gilmore Girls. I’m almost the same age as fictional Rory, and growing up without cable my options were limited. (I watched Gilmore Girls and West Wing, it was a magical time in my teenage life). Even when I studied abroad in college I got weekly updates of what happened in the episodes from my old roommate so I’d be ready for the new season when I came back (clearly we’re talking pre-digital anything here, and DVD […]

Thank You, Ellepkay!

December 6, 2016 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

I have a soft spot for the community here at Cannonball Read, and it gives me great pleasure to organize our book exchange each year. Pairing up just the right people is a fun challenge. The most awkward part? Sending my own name to someone. It doesn’t stop me though, since I love giving and receiving books. This year Ellepkay nailed it (I have always been very lucky with my gifters!). Not only did I receive a very sweet card (one is on its way […]

Hard to see much Lorelei in this one

March 11, 2015 by badkittyuno 2 Comments

I tried hard to separate the writing in Someday, Someday Maybe from my intense, decades-long crush on Lauren Graham. It wasn’t really hard to do, since I pretty much equate Lauren Graham with Lorelei Gilmore in my head (and maybe a little of her character in Bad Santa…) and the heroine of Someday, Someday Maybe doesn’t bear much resemblance to Lorelei. “Once again, I’ve been thwarted by the massive difference between my vision of the successful me and the me I’m currently stuck with.” Good lord, girl, we all […]

Everyone’s favourite Lorelei

December 30, 2014 by competitivenonfiction Leave a Comment

As a dedicated Gilmore Girls and Parenthood fan, when I heard that Lauren Graham wrote a book I obviously had to read it. In Someday, Someday, Maybe, Graham tells the story of a young actress ready to find her break in 1995 New York. It’s easy to speculate that at least some of the book is based on the real life experiences of a young Lauren Graham trying to make it as an actress in the big city, but this is a not a biography. It is, however, a thoroughly enjoyable story […]
