This book is not really one I’d pick up, except for the rave reviews I was reading about it. So I decided to give it (and soccer lit) a go. Is that a thing? Soccer lit? Well, it is now. I liked the narrator. Sal Casillas is strong, funny, and swears appropriately. But she’s also a bit annoying, in a righteously indignant way. And let me tell you, she. has. done. nothing. wrong. If there is a takeaway from this book, let it be that. Because […]
Thanks to the CBR romance readers hive mind for this one.
This is another one of those books I probably wouldn’t have touched were it not for the online book reviewing community. Specifically, all of you fellow romance-reading reviewers here at CBR, who read and reviewed Kulti to pieces starting late last year. I’d never even heard of Mariana Zapata until y’all started raving over this book. I’ve learned to trust our collective hive mind over the years, so I picked this up with one of my Audible credits earlier this year, and decided to save […]
This book might get me fired today…..
I fell for it. Even after reading all the 4 and 5 star reviews of this book, I still got sucked in and couldn’t put it down until I finished it at 2:30am. Currently I’m fighting the exhaustion that may cause me to fall asleep at my desk and lose my job. Thanks a lot, Kulti. This is the first book I bought based solely on CBR reviews, and you guys do not disappoint with your recommendations. I won’t dive too deep into a plot […]
A Less Enthusiastic Recommendation, But Still a Recommendation
It all began about a month ago on Facebook when the Patty half of PattyKates started talking about a book she liked called Kulti. SHE LIKED IT! She doesn’t like much of anything other than torturing Katie with ridiculously bad romances. And then Mrs. Julien made a one word post “Kuuuuultiiii!” At this point I knew I needed to investigate further. This is where I stepped wrong. While investigating Ms. Zapata, I made the mistake of buying her $.99 novel, Lingus. I had problems with […]
Forget about the title and the sort of weird ending. Everything else works pretty much perfectly.
I’ve learned a lot about my reading habits since I started cannonballing. For instance, I know that I like Stephen King and Rainbow Rowell above all other writers, and that a sub-par book from them is still going to get at least 4 stars from me. I know that I’m still on the fence with fantasy — but thanks to suggestions from other reviewers like narfna and Malin, I’m making some headway there. I’ve also learned (mostly through trial and error) that I like a […]
Another entry into the leading romance trope of 2016: slightly redeemable a**holes
2016 is the year of the slightly redeemable a*hole in romance. Between Richard in Act Like It, Raven from Dukes Prefer Blondes, and Joshua Templeman from The Hating Game we had quite a year. And then the lovely Patty threw out a phrase that caught my eye. Well, two phrases. German soccer star. Terrible and magnificent. She was right on all counts. Kulti is the story of Sal, the lead scorer on a women’s professional soccer team in the US and Reiner Kulti, a recently […]
