Going out with a bang (in more ways than one)

Dance with the Devil by Kit Rocha

January 27, 2024 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars After his father died, Rafael “Rafe” Morales basically sold himself to TechCorps and agreed to become a technologically enhanced supersoldier, so he could make enough money to keep his widowed mother and younger siblings safe. He didn’t really know what signing away his life would entail, and given the choice again, he probably would have chosen differently. He hasn’t been able to see them for years, certainly not since he and his team, the Silver Devils, had to fake their own deaths to […]

A bridging book, but a really good one

The Devil You Know by Kit Rocha

January 27, 2024 by Malin Leave a Comment

Maya used to be Marjorie Chevalier, but had to change her identity after she escaped the evil super scientists at TechCorps, where she was trained as a data courier (basically a human hard drive), with her senses specially enhanced to remember flawlessly everything she hears, reads, sees, hears and experiences. She used to work for one of the Vice Presidents of TechCorps who was secretly orchestrating a rebellion, However, her boss (also the only maternal figure Maya ever knew) was caught and executed, and Maya […]

Two very different Dragon books

Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

Consort of Fire by Kit Rocha

December 31, 2023 by RevGirlUtena 4 Comments

These books both had dragons, and I need to crank out reviews before the deadline, so let’s go! Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros This is the sequel to the incredibly popular Fourth Wing. Fourth Wing was definitely not a perfect book, and I understand a lot of the hate, but I enjoyed the Hell out of it. The sequel picks up immediately after the cliffhanger ending from the first book, and wasn’t it refreshing to only have to wait six months for this? People who […]

Some romantic books I read this summer and am reviewing now to reach a double Cannonball

Fangirl, the Manga: Volume 3 by Rainbow Rowell and Gabi Nam

Deal with the Devil by Kit Rocha

How the Wallflower Was Won by Eva Leigh

Knockout by Sarah Maclean

Fangirl, the Manga: Volume 3 – Rainbow Rowell and Gabi Nam Rating: 4 stars This August saw the release of the third installment of Rainbow Rowell’s manga version of Fangirl, my absolute favourite of her books (did I just buy a fancy tenth-anniversary edition, even though I own it in three other formats, NOT counting the mangas? You betcha). Cath is still struggling at college. Her writing partner Nick steals the story they’ve been working on together and makes her seem unreasonable for being upset […]

The Dragon, the Princess and the Assassin

Consort of Fire by Kit Rocha

December 27, 2023 by Malin 4 Comments

Disclaimer! This was an ARC from Netgalley (but I have also paid to buy the book myself, after reading it). My opinions are my own. Every one hundred years, the king of the Sheltered Lands has to send one heir to serve as consort to the ancient dragon god who acts as its protector and guardian. The previous consort went mad with fear not long after bonding with the Dragon, and Ash, the Dragon, worries that history will repeat itself. Ash has lived for over […]

Inconceivable, or I do not think that word means what you think it means

Consort of Fire by Kit Rocha

December 17, 2023 by katie71483 4 Comments

Kit Rocha’s Consort of Fire has done something really well: it has hit that sweet spot between a really well-envisioned fantasy world and romance. Queer romance at that. You could pick it up for either of those genres and be completely satisfied. The fact that it does justice to both is proof that the two authors behind the pseudonym of Kit Rocha are the real deal. Consort of Fire has done an excellent job of introducing us to this fantasy world where the Gods and […]
