Word of the Day: Kindness

Can Sophie Change the World? by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace

A Small Kindness by Stacy McAnulty

Hundred Feet Tall by Benjamin Scheuer

June 2, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Kindness is the word of the day. Or, at least, the word of the review. Sophie wants to give a gift for her grandfather. He says he does not want anything, but when she insists, he asks her to perform a good work and change the world (a mitzvah). She does not know how she can change the world. She is just a kid and not able to do big things. But when she tells her grandfather of the acts she did while trying to […]

Fly away Seemore

Seemore the Seagull by Ralph Tufo

December 20, 2021 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

I need to change my worst book read this year. It is actually, Seemore the Seagull by Ralph Tufo. And while my dislike does not come from the fact that I think I could do better (I am not an illustrator, or even a serious writer), it is coming from the fact the book has some major flaws for my personal tastes. Gift Time!

Go to Sleep (I Miss You): Cartoons from the Fog of New Parenthood by Lucy Knisley

Little Book of Kindness by Francesco Pirrone

June 10, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Go to Sleep (I Miss You): Cartoons from the Fog of New Parenthood by Lucy Knisley and Little Book of Kindness by Francesco Pirrone have little in common other than they will make awesome gifts! Go to Sleep is not a graphic novel in the usual Knisley way. It is some of her sketches, thoughts and events of when her son Pal was first on the scene. This book covers the ups, downs and WHAT THE’s of having a new baby. This is a great gift […]

You can be kind too

May 14, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I Am Enough by debut collaborators Grace Byers and Keturah A. Bobo is a story of self-confidence and kindness for girls everywhere. They show girls of all backgrounds and colors. I would have liked to have seen both girls and boys laughing, singing, running races together.  But with that said it is a lovely book with even more lovely illustrations. Meant for a younger audience to have it read to them, the slightly older reader could read it to a younger sibling. In Digger and […]
