Walk on the Wild side with magic

Amulet Volume 9: Waverider by Kazu Kibuishi

August 2, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The Amulet Series by Kazu Kibuishi was a big hit when it first appeared on the shelves of my bookstore, and I understood why, even though at the time I was just starting to get into graphic novels and fantasy was something I was reading again. It had a lot of pop and mystery. Things were fantasy, but had elements that were relatable, they even could be considered believable even though things were fantasy all the way. And the main character was also spunky and […]

The Amulet Series

The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi

The Stonekeeper's Curse by Kazu Kibuishi

Wanting to get in on the fun of sitting around, drinking tea, and discussing books, the Best Nephew in Australia (11) fished out his favourite graphic novels to send home with me.  They are suspiciously pristine, to the extent that I was very concerned about reading them – the rest of us are tough on books, and he may be adopted (not really, Xan, that’s hyperbole for comedic purposes, I promise). Amulet is a series of kids fantasy/horror graphic novels, and so far I’m really […]

I can see a better time When all our dreams come true

The Stonekeeper's Curse by Kazu Kibuishi

December 14, 2021 by esme 2 Comments

Amazingly, I only discovered that I could download graphic novels to my library app a few weeks ago, and my son and I have been tearing through some pretty good ones since then. He mentioned that they read the first book in the Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi, The Stonekeeper, at school, so we sought the second one. Thus, I went into reading this book with an 8 year old’s synopsis of the first book. Briefly, Emily has inherited a stone amulet that confers power, […]

Summarizing the entire series after reading the last five books in it

Amulet V04 The Last Council by Kazu Kibuishi

Amulet V05 Prince of the Elves by Kazu Kibuishi

Amulet V06 Escape from Lucien by Kazu Kibuishi

Amulet V07 Firelight by Kazu Kibuishi

Amulet V08 Supernova by Kazu Kibuishi

Ages ago I read book one and two of the Amulet series. Kazu Kibuishi’s illustrations are fun, the storylines familiar and it seemed like a good series to get involved with. After all, only 8 (now 6) books and they were short so what could go wrong? Well, it wasn’t “gone wrong” but it is an odd thing and one I’m a bit embarrassed to admit. Either I missed book three or I have absolutely no memory of it. And that has colored the rest […]

A world inhabited by demons, robots, and talking animals

The Stonekeeper (Amulet, #1) by Kazu Kibuishi

February 6, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Several years ago, The Stonekeeper (Amulet, #1) came out. This was at the start of graphic novels being accepted in mainstream. I was still wary of them, thinking I am not an “art driven person” what couldthey give me to me? What could Kazu Kibuishi give me that text alone could not? Honestly, had I read it “back then” I would not have enjoyed it half as much as I actually did. With that said, I do wish I had the whole series, or a […]
