Don’t judge a book by its cover

Griz by Eddie Cleveland

November 9, 2020 by katie71483 3 Comments

I’ll be the first to admit guilt: I had zero expectations about this book. The blurb sounded mildly entertaining, a comedic fake relationship romance with a college hockey backdrop. Strike that. I had low expectations. I totally judged GRIZ by E. Cleveland by two things that really shouldn’t have any bearing on the quality of a book: the title, the cover and the fact that it was a Kindle Unlimited selection. Okay, that was three things, but bear with me here. Griz is the name […]

Hot Rabbi, or why inclusion is important

Hot Rabbi by Aviva Blakeman

October 11, 2020 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

I feel like I should be up front about this: I received a copy of HOT RABBI as a gift from the author, Aviva Blakeman. She is a dear friend and knew that I would need something to occupy my time while Hurricane Delta passed overhead – and boy was she right about that. The wind, oh my God, the wind. FOR HOURS. I hate that sound. I’m getting off track a little; I just meant to reassure you that the fact this was a […]

Rolling with my homies

How to Vex a Vampire by Alice Winters

May 1, 2020 by katie71483 1 Comment

How to Vex a Vampire by Alice Winters reads like a cross between a script for Will & Grace and an early Laurell K. Hamilton novel, with a side of True Blood thrown in for good measure. Honestly, I can’t decide if I love it or hate it. Maybe a bit of both. Finnigan is an enormous flirt who is apparently a wee little man blessed with the capability to make just about anyone like him. He’s also a human homicide cop who has […]

Completely NSFW. And, seriously. WTF.

The Greatest Risk by Kristen Ashley

April 19, 2020 by katie71483 4 Comments

The Greatest Risk by Kristen Ashley Patty: [Maniacal laughter] Well. This is how PattyKates breaks a months-long reviewing dry spell. Buckle up, people, or risk getting bound and spanked. Katie: The Greatest Risk is hands down the filthiest, most absurd Kristen Ashley book I’ve ever read. HANDS DOWN. It raises so many questions in the mind of this very confused reader.  Patty: Boys and girls, I want to tell you a story about two people who meet, fall in love, and live happily ever after. Unfortunately, […]

Misadventures of a Curvy Girl by Sierra Simone

March 9, 2020 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

Acknowledging that I’m probably dreadfully late to the party, I’d like to recommend Misadventures of a Curvy Girl by Sierra Simone. I found the heroine, Ireland, to be relatable and realistic in so many ways. She’s a legitimate plus size gal who is working on being body positive, but is really having to struggle with those stupid voices in your head, the ones that tell you you aren’t worthy because of your weight or wonder why anyone would possibly be interested in you. I’ve had […]

Ringing in the New Year

Festive in Death by J. D. Robb

January 1, 2020 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

For a large chunk of 2019, I re-read J. D. Robb’s* entire In Death series. It’s a futuristic mystery series set about 40 years in the future. As of January 1, 2020, there are 49 novel length installments and several shorter novellas. Book 50 releases in February. This review features the cover art for book 39, Festive in Death, since it’s holiday themed. (Don’t worry – I’m not going to try and claim the entire series and hit my Cannonball on the very first day!) […]
