Kitty: Oh, dear friends… Patty talked me into reading Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley. Obviously she is a sadist and I am a damn fool. Five pages into the first chapter and Tyra, the heroine, is slut-shaming herself, “I’m embracing my inner slut.”, referring to a one night stand with a guy who turns out to be her new boss. Trixie: We need motorcycle gang old-lady nicknames for this one, Kitty. And I didn’t so much talk you into reading it as demanded that you […]
Holding out for a hero…
Katie: Y’all, I want to give a shout out today to Patty for raising her Girl right. Being the great parent she is, Patty has gotten Girl started down the Judy Blume path. Being the great kid she is, Girl has some thoughts and feelings she’d like to share. Patty: Because PattyKates wasn’t enough of a departure, we’ve decided to do a review à trois with my daughter – who henceforth shall be referred to as Girl – being very careful to maintain a level […]
Wrong on so, so many levels
I just read a terrible romance where the heroine is a senior at Penn, the hero is a 40-ish doctor who stops in at the coffee shop where she works once a week. He turns out to be an ob/gyn who volunteers at the university’s clinic once a week. Want to guess who her random doctor is when she goes in for birth control? Or who turns out to be a heiress and illegitimate daughter of a now deceased US Senator? Or who winds up […]
Chakra here, chakra there, chakra everywhere
Patty: Confession Time: When I approached Katie with the idea of doing a joint review, it was supposed to be a one-time thing, my way of getting her to complete her Half-Cannonball as she had kind of been in a slump. We had a blast and have kept the momentum going (sorta) through shark shifters and carnies, lip biting and watersnakes, and 500 Shades of Crap. They haven’t all been bad, mind you, but somewhere along the line I started to wonder what the point […]
This one goes up to 11!
Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon is perhaps too obvious a choice of theme song for a review of a romance novel involving a rock star who has lost his band to a tragic traffic accident and a cop who is such a cliche that it almost hurts, but who cares? It’s a great song by a great band. I’m leaving it in. Sinner’s Gin is the first in a series by Rhys Ford about the remnants of rock band and a family of […]
Hold me closer, tiny dancer
I’m not sure what “Sloe Ride” title of Rhys Ford’s new book is referring to, but that’s a small quibble for an otherwise generally enjoyable book. It’s number 4 in The Sinners series, and while I was able to follow it without too much effort, I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if I’d read books 1-3 first. There were enough references to recurring characters and earlier occurrences that made it pretty clear I should’ve already known these secondary (in this book) storylines. They are […]
