CBR12 Book Bingo – Happy

Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center

September 4, 2020 by randirock Leave a Comment

I will start this review by saying after I read this book, I expeditiously ordered every other book written by Katherine Center. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again – I love love. Give me a good romance, and I’m a happy girl. Not only was this book a beautifully written, heartfelt novel, it also featured some serious girl power, which I can always get behind! According to the National Fire Protection Association, there are 1.16 million firefighters in the United States, […]

The Lost Husband by Katherine Center

Royal Holiday (The Wedding Date #4) by Jasmine Guillory

(3 stars) The Lost Husband by Katherine Center It’s not set at Christmas time, but that’s pretty close. Goats instead of dogs, though. “Anything was possible. Everything was uncertain. But I knew one thing for sure: I’d bounced back before, and I would do it again and again and again. Because that’s the only choice there is. And as many things as I still had to lose, I had just as many more left to find.” Libby and her two small children have been living […]

So the Eat Pray Love genre is still a thing, eh?

Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center

If you like the line of books featuring women having a post-divorce/career crisis/death in the family life crisis by venturing out into exotic locations entirely unprepared and rocking it against literally all odds, you may like this book, though it is apparently darker than others. If you are more cynical about this sort of plot device, you will likely want to strangle everyone in this book. I didn’t hate everything about this book. Helen is 32 while our hero Jake is 22. When this sort of […]

“It’s amazing how brave you can be when you feel safe.”

Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center

This was a sweet, feel good story. I really liked the main pairing of two firefighters who fall for each other even though it’s a terrible idea career-wise (especially for the woman). I also loved hearing about life in a fire station — the behind-the-scenes information about the training and the politics (at this at this fictional station near Boston) and the situations they encounter was really interesting. “That’s the thing I always love best about the human race: How we pick ourselves back up […]

Katherine Center writes a very particular type of book — and helped me hit my 5th cannonball of the year!

Everyone is Beautiful by Katherine Center

I really enjoyed her novel How to Walk Away, so once I finished it I sought out some other books by Katherine Center. These were all great reads, although it’s likely that by this time next year I will have no recollection of them whatsoever. They’re those kind of feel-good books that you enjoy in the moment even if they’re not going to stay with you for a long time. (4 stars) Happiness for Beginners by Katherine Center I liked this one primarily because I could […]

How to Walk Away by Katherine Center

November 21, 2019 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

It may be because I just finished 5 books about serial killers, but I really enjoyed this lovely story about a woman who overcomes a tragedy and falls in love again. It was sweet without being too sweet and I really enjoyed watching the two main characters interact. It made for an excellent palate cleanser. “When you don’t know what to do for yourself, do something for somebody else.” Margaret Jacobsen ignores ALL of her instincts, and gets into a plane flown by her unqualified […]
