Kind of a badass

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

September 2, 2023 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I’ve been trying to find audiobooks for my commute to and from work. It’s not that long of a trip, but I figure I’m better off using the time for good instead of wasting it. The latest audiobook I discovered available at my library was The Bodyguard (2022) by Katherine Center. I’m usually a fan of bodyguard romances because I’m a sucker for a strong, protective guy. However, this book gives us a female bodyguard, and she’s safeguarding a man. Jack Stapleton is a famous actor, and […]

“My mother’s dying wish was for me to take a vacation.”

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

When you forget you’ve already read books by an author and didn’t like them. Plot: Hannah is a bodyguard working for an exclusive company that serves the ultra rich. She’s a tiny powerhouse looking for an opportunity to prove herself in time for a major promotion. Fortunately, the company has just been hired by a production company to provide protection for a movie star who is moving into the area to support his mother through cancer treatments. Unfortunately, he doesn’t want his sick mother to […]

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. So this was a weird one. It’s definitely a romance. But I felt like the romance between Hannah and Jack took way too long to get going. I wasn’t picking up any he’s really into her vibes at all in this until a key point in the book. It also as some have pointed out felt like a very slapstick book. I mean I laughed a lot. Robby […]

If your therapist started writing chick-lit, this is what you’d get.

Things You Save In A Fire by Katherine Center

June 18, 2022 by RaRaGabor Leave a Comment

This is the second Katherine Center book I’ve read. My book club read How To Walk Away a couple years ago. It was fine! Not my usual cup of tea, but we actually had a good discussion around disability, the ethics that therapists should/do follow, etc. I thought Things You Save In A Fire might be a good addition for the Beach Reads presentation that I’m doing for work. Cassie Hanwell is a 26 year old fire fighter. She’s also a rising star in the […]

How to Walk Away by Katherine Center

March 28, 2021 by Nart Leave a Comment

I generally try to give an author a couple of books before I put them on my Never Buy list. This makes 2 books from Katherine Center and she is officially on that list forever. I saw hints of problematic white feminism centring on a selfish Beckie who thinks she’s a gift to the world simply by existing in Happiness for Beginners. Those elements are that much more present in this novel. Plot: Becky (her actual name is Margaret) has never had an independent thought […]

Lock Every Door – Violet The Bingo space reasoning for this book is obvious given the color of the cover. Lock Every Door completely kept my interest throughout; however, I would put it at the bottom of the list for Riley Sager’s books. That doesn’t mean it isn’t worth checking out. I would recommend it to anyone interested in a creepy read in the same vein as Get Out. In fact, I’m interested to know which one came first. The plots are so similar that […]
