This is how I get in trouble when ppl ask me what books are about

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

Wrong Alibi by Christina Dodd

Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver

November 23, 2025 by NTE Leave a Comment

Because none of these three books was technically focused on what these reviews are focused on, but still, I promise these reviews are about these books.  Somehow. Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter – Gory & intense, but it probably should be, given the subject matter, which is kidnapping, rape, torture, missing women and children. It was a rough read, that’s for sure, but I also thought it was pretty good.  Thought the author did a great job of talking about the way tragedies impact families, how […]

I don’t do torture

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

June 25, 2025 by Sophia 2 Comments

I’ve read Cop Town by Karin Slaughter, which I appreciated for a number of reasons. So when I found Pretty Girls (2016) by the same author under “popular audiobooks” at the library’s website, I downloaded it almost immediately. Slaughter seems to write gritty, violent books, but I was unprepared for this one. Knowing what I know now, I would not have chosen to read it. Although I did finish it, the violence and darkness was too much for me. I did think it was well-written, but I would not […]

Guilty as Charged

We Are All Guilty Here (North Falls #1) by Karin Slaughter

June 12, 2025 by Zirza Leave a Comment

Emmy Clifton works as a cop for a small town police force. At the start of the novel, she’s at the town’s fourth of July celebrations. She picks a fight with her no-good husband, then brushes off Madison, her friend’s teenage daughter. And then Madison disappears along with her friend Cheyenne. All that is found are the girls’ discarded bikes, and a large puddle of blood.  Slaughter rose to fame with her Grant County series, and those books will always have a special place in […]

Triptych by Slaughter? I hardly know her

Triptych by Karin Slaughter

March 15, 2025 by Emrys 1 Comment

On a Mystery novel kick. This book was recommended by a coworker, and they did not disappoint. Triptych by Karin Slaughter is a solid, well written, book. That’s the headline.Spoilers ahead. This book actually took me for a ride, as it utilizes something I don’t really see in mystery novels very often, which is telling the story from multiple view points. But then it does a second unique thing, which is, not let you in on the full thoughts of the first person view. This […]

Murder Misery

This is Why We Lied by Karin Slaughter

June 19, 2024 by Zirza Leave a Comment

Newlyweds Sara (forensic pathologist) and Will (GBI agent) have decided to splurge on their honeymoon; they’ve rented a cabin at the exclusive McAlpine lodge, deep in the Appalachian Mountains, for a week of horseback riding, fishing, mountain biking and – as is made abundantly clear – loads of steamy sex. But because this a Karin Slaughter novel and somehow everything always has to tie into the character’s personal lives, during their first night, Mercy McAlpine, the resort’s manager, is found dead.  First of all: Mercy […]

Girl, Forgotten

Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter

July 12, 2023 by donttrustthe_bea Leave a Comment

For some time now, I have been recommended Karin Slaughter as an author whose work I would thoroughly enjoy. Known for her slow burn thrillers, one of her most recent works, Pieces of Her, was adapted into a limited Netflix series. I didn’t know this when I picked up Girl, Forgotten, and thankfully it wasn’t necessary to have read the previous book as this book is only tangentially related to Pieces. The novel follows Andrea Oliver, a newly graduated US Marshal and daughter of Laura […]
