“There are no squids in America!” (a la An American Tale)

The Pretender by K. A. Applegate

The Attack by K. A. Applegate

The Exposed by K. A. Applegate

The Sickness by K.A. Applegate

August 18, 2025 by cosbrarian 2 Comments

I don’t know how they did it, but these Animorphs books just keep getting crazier. I’m almost sad I skipped a few “skippable” titles, cuz what crazy hijinks am I missing?! Book 23 – The Pretender A Tobias book. Tobias is having weird flashes when he hunts small prey, where he finds himself seeing the POV of said prey. He also learns a cousin is looking for him (since he seemingly disappeared into nowhere after becoming a hawk-4-life). Turns out that person was just Visser-3 […]

Animorphs Rebooted

The Invasion by Chris Grine

The Visitor by Chris Grine

The Encounter by Chris Grine

The Message by Chris Grine

The Invasion by Chris Grine

July 25, 2025 by cosbrarian Leave a Comment

I read all six of the Animorphs Graphic novels by Chris Grine! I read the first book with my tween book group at the library, and it was so fun to talk to them about it. They generally really liked it. Only one kid was skeeved out by the morphing. Most of them didn’t really get the main conflict, though. I’m not sure if this is because they are too young (many are third graders) or if the portrayal of the Yeerks isn’t very clear. […]

Oh no, they (almost) killed David!

The Discovery by K. A. Applegate

The Threat by K. A. Applegate

The Solution by K. A. Applegate

July 23, 2025 by cosbrarian 3 Comments

The Animorphs created a psychopath then abandoned him on an island of rats. Yes, I just finished Animorphs books 20 thru 22, the David Trilogy. See, the Animorphs meet a new kid named David (who, in my headcast, is tween Mark-Paul Gosselaar). This new kid is playing with a familiar blue cube – the very Andalite cube that gave the Animorphs their morphing powers! They attempt a stealth mission at David’s house to get the cube back, fearful the Yeerks will get their hands on […]

Best book of 1998?!

The Decision by K. A. Applegate

Megamorphs 2: In the Time of the Dinosaurs by K. A. Applegate

The Departure by K. A. Applegate

June 9, 2025 by cosbrarian Leave a Comment

It’s possible that the best book I’ve read all year is a thirty year old Animorphs book. This whole batch of books is a lot of fun, but book 19 is next level. Book 18, The Decision, is an Ax the Andalite book, and it’s quite good. I think I mention this in an earlier review, but one crazy sci-fi element of the Animorphs books comes to morphing animals that are smaller than oneself. If you, as a human, morph into a tiny cockroach (yes, […]

Super-Sharks, Web Safety, and Instant Oatmeal (Animorphs 15-17)

The Escape by K.A. Applegate

The Warning by K.A. Applegate

The Underground by K.A. Applegate

May 16, 2025 by cosbrarian 2 Comments

I skipped book 14 of the Animorphs because I heard it’s skippable and I need the grace period! I’m so behind! In The Escape (a Marco book), the kids learn that the Yeerks are attempting to infiltrate the Leerans, an aquatic psychic alien species. They hope to control Leerans to suss out enemies with said psychic powers. To aid this quest, they are creating a species of enhanced hammerhead sharks to act as their underwater muscle. This is the highest priority job for the Yeerks, […]

Holy Mother Yeerking Shirt balls!

The Andalite Chronicles by K. A. Applegate

April 28, 2025 by cosbrarian Leave a Comment

I was never really a Goodreads-er, but I did always like those gif/meme reviews, so I’m going to try that here exclusively using gifs from my favorite crazy series, The Good Place. Spoilers for The Animorphs series! We open at the top of book one, The Invasion, from Elfangor’s POV as he is dying. But then we snap back in time. Elfangor and his friend Arbron are training to be Andalite warriors under the disgraced war-veteran Alloran. As a reminder, Andalites are centaur-like aliens and […]
