Missing some tension and excitement

It Happened One Wedding by Julie James

May 3, 2019 by Sophia 2 Comments

I needed a break from serious reading, so I picked up It Happened One Wedding (2014) by Julie James. I’d enjoyed some other books by James, and this one was available now at the library. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my favorite of her books. There was nothing especially wrong with it. The characters were likable, and the story line was fine. There just wasn’t much excitement, and my whole experience was rather bland. Sidney Sinclair recently moved back to Chicago after a painful breakup with her fiancé. She is a […]

Undercover lovin’

January 26, 2018 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I’ve read a number of books by Julie James, so when I saw The Thing About Love on NPR’s Best Books of 2017 list, I picked it up immediately. It turns out that I really liked this one. There may not be as much excitement as I had been expecting, especially considering that it involves two FBI agents and their related cases. However, the characters have good chemistry, and this book felt more realistic than others I’ve read by James. John Shepherd and Jessica Harlow were in the same […]

Who new books about FBI agents and attorneys could actually be fun?

June 14, 2017 by Beth Ellen 1 Comment

So over the first of our two big adventures the fam and I packed up and flew across the country for vacation. When traveling with an under two we quickly realised that we had a lot of spare evening time on our hands in very quiet hotel rooms. Enter the first four books of a series that I’ve already read the more recent ones. Something About You Cameron is an assistant US Attorney taking a much needed weekend away at a fancy hotel while her […]

Pleasant but forgettable

May 9, 2017 by Ellepkay Leave a Comment

Julie James is an author I always enjoy, but never rave about.  I picked this one up on sale a while ago, and it probably would have languished on my TBR longer, but Ms. James was speaking at a local bookshop, so I wanted a fresh book in my mind.  By the time I’m writing this review, it’s been a couple of weeks since I finished the book and I know why I never rave – the book was totally enjoyable AND completely forgettable. This […]

He said, she said

May 5, 2017 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars Jessica Harlow has just returned to Chicago and is eager to prove herself to her new FBI colleagues. Her divorce to a Hollywood producer just finalised and she’s looking for a fresh start closer to her family. She’s always enjoyed undercover work and wants to do well on her first mission with the Chicago office. Considering her husband pretty much asked for the divorce because he felt Jessica was spending too much time on her work, Jessica wants nothing more than to really […]

Beige Couple Has Sex

February 8, 2017 by Classic 2 Comments

This really was not that interesting. Too pretty people having hot sex though they initially loathed each other. I was bored from beginning to end when I was not disgusted by the character of Vaughn. Sidney Sinclair is an investment banker. After moving back to Chicago after finding out her fiancee was cheating on her, she is trying to dip her toe back into the dating pool. After a blah date at a coffee shop, she is asked out by a total stranger who lashes […]
