Angry Men and the Women that Save Them: And They All Lived Happily Ever After and Had Many Children

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn

An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

January 26, 2021 by LanierHgts 2 Comments

I am not a connoisseur of the romance genre but will occasionally pick up a book that I have seen recommended somewhere (or that is free for kindle).  With all of the Bridgerton hype on Netflix, I figured I would read some of the books before I delved into the show.  Also, I like historical fiction.  So I checked out of my local library the first three books in the series.  This review will cover all three books.  Warning: spoiler alert. I really liked these […]

He liked that she was helpless.

An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

Well, more of an abduction than an offer and definitely not from a gentleman. While I truly enjoyed the Bridgerton books 1-2, I had to hate read this one. Buckle up. This review is going to be 250+ words full of WTF. It definitely struck a different cord with me than it did with a lot of other Cannonballers. Perhaps there is a reason that the second Bridgerton son, Benedict, is mostly absent or just lingering around in the background in the first two books. BECAUSE HE […]

Oh, what a tangle!

The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn

January 17, 2021 by Leedock 1 Comment

Oh, yes. Reading mojo is back. These little Bridgerton books are truly a gift for my mind at this particular time. Hopefully they are priming the well for the deeper and lengthier books in my TBR, but for now they are just what I needed to calm myself down a bit; a little escape from hand-wringing and doom scrolling. This second installment in the Bridgerton Family series concentrates on the eldest unmarried son and current head of the household, Anthony. Dutiful to a tee, he […]

Men wanted his opinion on any number of topics. Women swooned at his feet

The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

January 16, 2021 by Leedock 3 Comments

I am not a fan of straight up bodice rippers, but witty banter, suffering in silence and smoldering looks are right up my alley. Give me a sassy heroine and an honorable but standoffish hero and I’m ALL IN. Austen vibes? Yes. Sweeping historical epics a la Outlander? Please and thank you. The issue is that I tend to shy away from some romance novels due to swift cover judgement (man in open pirate shirt with disheveled woman leaning back against him in rapturous ecstasy) […]

“You have to live each hour as if it’s your last and each day as if you were immortal.” (CBR Bingo)

The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons #2) by Julia Quinn

August 6, 2020 by faintingviolet Leave a Comment

Of the early Bridgerton books I loved books three and four, really liked the first, and thought the second was okay on my first read through. The good news headline of this reread review is that I liked this book more the second time through than I did the first. The plot of the book is a bit thinner than its predecessor, but that isn’t a bad thing. In The Viscount Who Loved Me we follow Anthony and Kate as they maneuver through the 1814 […]

“And if you say that’s because you lot barged into her home like a herd of mentally deficient sheep, I’m disowning all three of you.” (CBR12 Bingo)

The Duke and I (Bridgertons #1) by Julia Quinn

July 28, 2020 by faintingviolet 4 Comments

Continuing down the road of comfort reading I’ve decided to do some rereading of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series. I first read the books in 2015 and loved them then, and I’m happy to report that after my latest reading of The Duke and I, the first book in the series,  that I’m just as pleased now as I was then. Even better, there’s a Netflix adaptation of the series on the way – season one finished filming before COVID shutdown most television production but we […]
