Eloise Bridgerton has reached the age of 28 and while she has received six different marriage proposals, she was quite happy with the idea of ending up a spinster. That was, of course, when she believed her best friend, Penelope Featherington, was going to be there, spinstering alongside her. Then Penelope ends up marrying the man of her dreams, Eloise’s brother Colin, and suddenly spinsterhood isn’t looking quite so rosy. On impulse, Eloise decides to run off to the countryside to visit Sir Phillip Crane, […]
This book made me stay up all night so now I’m blaming it like a petulant child.
I’m sure as fellow book readers you will understand what I mean when I say that sometimes books make you do bad things for your health and safety. I’ve had a cold since Monday and sleep is something I should be getting plenty of right now. I headed to bed on time for once last night, and settled in about 10:15 PM with my copy of this e-book, figuring I’d read for five minutes or so and then turn in. There aren’t many books these […]
Gotta love a fake engagement plot.
After I mentioned that my library didn’t have this book, the lovely Malin sent it to me, along with books 2-4 in the series. I tried a little bit to resist reading this because I have so many other books I should be reading, but I made it barely to noon the next day before I caved. Basically, this book was fun. Malin is the best. The Duke and I is the first book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons series, which follows the immense Bridgerton clan, […]
Good things come to those who wait
Miss Penelope Featherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton for almost half her life. Ever since her bonnet blew off in the park and hit him in the face, causing him to be thrown from his horse, yet reacting to the whole incident with a shrug and a laugh. After years of being dressed in ghastly, unsuitable colours and outfits by her ambitious mama, Penelope has survived a number of seasons without a single marriage proposal and is firmly on the shelf. Her best […]
“I had to do something,” she said. “I couldn’t just sit and wait for life to happen to me any longer.”
I devoured this book in one sitting. There’s really not much else you need to know about it. It isn’t my favorite Bridgerton book (book #1 so far would be An Offer From a Gentleman), but it is quite good. Eloise Bridgerton is the fifth child of Bridgerton brood and 1824 finds her firmly on the shelf after turning down many marriage proposals, and newly alone following the marriage of her best friend and fellow spinster Penelope. At loose ends, Eloise decides to accept an […]
A Cinderella story
An Offer from a Gentleman is Julia Quinn’s Cinderella retelling and it is absolutely delightful. Of all the Bridgerton books, this one is my absolute favourite. Benedict is a wonderful hero, who literally comes to the rescue of victim of circumstance Sophie more than once, yet while she needs saving every so often, she is so strong and resilient and stands up for herself so admirably throughout the book.
