Autumn: My favorite season

Oak Leaf by John Sandford

Lawrence in the Fall by Matthew Farina

September 19, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

This is going to be a two-book review. They have nothing in common other than they both deal with autumn and they are experiencing books. That means, you do not just read this book, you feel the book. Maybe that is just me. I fall into a book and walk along with the characters. Maybe I am the only one who tastes a story when I am reading, or that all my senses come into play. No, I do not eat a book (though we […]

Return to Form with Silken Prey

Silken Prey by John Sandford

September 12, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well it was a few short months ago when I almost quit this series. I was tired of the Letty is definitely a psychopath but let’s ignore it shall we that was going on in the series. And the total retconning of a character in order to make them die so Lucas could be “torn.” Bah. Fridging women characters is BS and I wish authors would stop. “Silken Prey” has Lucas trying to find out if a Senator running for re-election was looking at child […]

Somehow Worse Than the First Davenport Novel

Dark of the Moon by John Sandford

June 28, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I still say that John Sandford was trolling his readers with the first book in his series. He took all of the complaints of the Lucas Davenport series and just went to level 10 with everything. Lucas was a man that no man can say no to, Virgil rolls into town and gets a woman interested in him in like 5 minutes. Lucas does things out of bounds, well Virgil just goes and works around local law enforcement until he needs them as well and […]

Packs a Punch

Stolen Prey by John Sandford

June 14, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Not too much to say about this one besides it was action packed from beginning to end. When Lucas finally catches on to what is happening the book really ratchets up the tension. That said, it’s getting old with Lucas’s family in peril. At this point he just needs to hire an off duty security guy because the bad guys always stupidly decide to try to take him out. I thought it was great to increase more of Del, Jenkins, and the guys. Thought it […]

Epic Rant–Spoilers

Buried Prey by John Sandford

April 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So I can’t talk about this book without spoilers. That’s how freaking annoyed I am. I may just give up reading anymore books in this series or ensuring they are library borrows. Lucas is not the end all be all for women everywhere. The fact that Sandford cheapens Marcy’s death by forgetting her backstory and having her thinking about Lucas in a someday romantic style made me heave. And then of course everyone is not focused on Marcy. Oh hell no, everyone must be focused […]

Davenport’s Family is in Danger Again

Stormy Prey by John Sandford

April 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Honestly not too much to say about this. The POVs with the bad guys in this one don’t work. It was good to get more of Weather’s POV though and I realize it’s been a while since Sandford had her actually part of the story besides going to work and getting Lucas out of his bad moods. Other than that though, this book really doesn’t work. The bad guys are some of the stupidest people ever. The fixation on killing Weather makes zero sense. And […]
