3 New Keys in Volume 3

April 25, 2014 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

I am very much enjoying the Locke & Key graphic novel series, and am so glad that my sister is letting me read them (even before she has a chance to)! The plot keeps moving along at a not-too-rapid pace, yet every volume is filled with new mysteries, developments, and dangers that this poor family has to face. I find it all to be so riveting, but then, this genre is really right up my alley. If you haven’t read any of the previous instalments […]

No No NOS4A2

March 31, 2014 by DataAngel 2 Comments

A few weeks ago I made a post on Facebook asking for recommendations for really scary books. I wanted to be scared. I wanted that uncomfortable, creeped-out feeling. I wanted to have trouble sleeping because my mind wouldn’t let go of something I read. Several people recommended NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. I checked out the book. I noticed it had a lot of high star ratings on Amazon and Goodreads. I figured I’d give it a shot. I seldom regret spending money on books, but […]

Now I Wonder What The Inside of MY Head Would Look Like

March 20, 2014 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

This series keeps drawing me in with so many questions and little mysteries about all of the different characters, and if someone hadn’t already borrowed my sister’s copy, I would have kept on with the 3rd volume in this series immediately after finishing Head Games. There is something really refreshing about the familial mystery to be found in Locke & Key, with cleanly detailed artwork that just adds to the overall appeal. This second volume, Head Games, picks up with the Locke family, and the […]

A Promising Start as I Embark on a New Comic Book Series

February 22, 2014 by Lisa Bee Leave a Comment

A recommendation from my sister who hasn’t even read this series yet, but she was told by my cousin that it is really good. And I have to say, the first volume of Locke & Key is a solid and intriguing start to this somewhat spooky and supernatural comic book series. Collecting the first 6 issues, volume 1 is entitled Welcome to Lovecraft and is written by Joe Hill, with engaging artwork by Gabriel Rodriguez: the artwork has a clean style that isn’t too flashy, […]

Probably don’t get this book in place of a Valentine: This is not the kind of Heart Shaped Box your sweetie wants

February 1, 2014 by NTE 2 Comments

(Unless your sweetie is, like me, a fan of creepy books.  In that case, this might suit her/him better than the box of candy you had planned on.) Is it a sin to treat people as if they are disposable?  If you don’t think so at the beginning of this creeper of a novel, I guarantee that you will by the end.  (You will also probably believe in ghosts.) (And never lock your dogs out of the room ever again.) The main character of Heart […]

NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

That Looks Nothing Like Nosferatu, Mr. Hill (A Robert CBR6 Review)

January 23, 2014 by Robert 1 Comment

In NOS4A2, Joe Hill takes his remarkable eye for detail and applies it to a wide and expansive universe full of rich, memorable characters. The general throughline is Victoria McQueen and the discovery of inscapes. As a child, Victoria (or Brat, as her father calls her) finds out that if she rides her bike fast enough, she can make a demolished bridge appear that leads her to whatever she looking for. A fight with her parents leads her straight into trouble: a serial child abductor […]
