A run of the mill mystery

Or Else by Joe Hart

June 25, 2023 by genericwhitegirl Leave a Comment

I’ve read a few of Hart’s books and enjoyed them enough to see what else was at my library. Or Else came up, so I gave it a go. This mystery/thriller is about Andy, who is having an affair with his neighbor and childhood friend, Rachel. But then Andy receives a threatening note to stop the affair…Or Else. See how that works? Then Rachel’s husband is murdered and she and her kids disappear. Because there wouldn’t be much of a book otherwise, Andy decides he […]

A creepy little short story

The Line Unseen by Joe Hart

December 30, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Boy was this a short book! I’m not really sure that I fully remember what happened in this book. I do remember being fully creeped out though. I’ve read at least one or two Joe Hart books in the past, and they’ve been mostly zombie related. This one was a little different, but it did involve an element of the supernatural / fictional creature. This is basically the story of a guy who finds out his wife is cheating on him, and tries to do […]

You Don’t Have to Sell Your Soul to Buy this Book (Because it’s free on Kindle!)

August 30, 2018 by genericwhitegirl Leave a Comment

Ugh. I almost don’t want to review this book because the cover image is so creepy. Christian me is clutching my holy pearls at the obviously satanic image on my blog and wondering if it will somehow infiltrate my life through my Chromebook. But I already read the book so I guess any potential damage has been done. But STILL. Her eyes…blech! I decided to give this one a go, despite the obvious danger to my soul, because I had read (and liked) another Hart […]

Free on Kindle! And I liked it, too!

This is a great novella from Joe Hart about two people who start starry eyed, like any other couple, but slowly grow apart. Set on the blustery Maine coast, Hart describes Jason and Delphi in a quaint home on the seashore, with the cold, dark ocean just beyond their doorstep. We see events through Jason’s eyes. A reluctant fisherman following in the steps of his father, Jason wants nothing more than to provide for his wife, Delphi, and build a family. But as Delphi becomes […]

I had to stop reading this at night

July 27, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This is a very short story, and it almost feels like a cheat to have it as one of my CBR books for the year, but here we are.  After reading Obscura (which was one of my recent reviews), I wanted more Joe Hart.  So I downloaded a few short stories that were available on Kindle Unlimited.  I started to read this story the other night laying in my bed, and I actually had to stop and read it during the day. It’s at its […]

It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine

July 27, 2018 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So I really liked this book. I read a series either earlier this year or last year by Joe Hart, and it was very different from this book.  I guess that series was still science fiction-y, like this one, but it still felt very different. We begin this book by meeting Gillian, as she’s basically getting into a car accident with her husband.  We learn that he has this terrible brain disease called Losian’s, that’s similar to Alzheimer’s, but affects all ages.  He’s starting to […]
