I really like these story collections because I don’t have the patience to track them all down in their various anthologies. Extremely convenient, thumbs up. And to top it all off, I really enjoyed all the stories here. There were a couple in the last collection I was a little bored with, or that showed their age, etc. But they were all good here, entertaining and fit well into the larger Dresden Files universe. I especially liked that three of them took place after the […]
Still my fave. I think closely followed by Dead Beat. Anyway, Dresden Re-read complete!
I should have written this review three weeks ago. This will not be long or comprehensive. I’m behind in my reviews, but so close to catching up! (Only two more after this one!) Mostly, whatever I’m about to write will boil down to, “This is still my favorite Dresden Files book and it is so fun.” Warning: free floating spoilers for events in the first fourteen books below. In this book we have: *Harry teaming up with his mortal enemies, the Denariians. *Harry confronting his […]
Sadly, Sue the T-Rex Does Not Make an Appearance. But a Very Good Boy Does
It’s been a while since Skin Game was published, and with no release date for Peace Talks in sight, Harry Dresen fans such as myself have been feeling a little despondent. We all miss our crazy, tall, smart-aleky wizard. Thankfully, Brief Cases has come along, and while most of the stories have been published previously, some have been hard to get, making this a very welcome release for the deprived reader. I think I’d read just over half the stories before, so I was […]
Episode 1-24: Two People Can Keep a Secret if One of Them is Dead
https://killingmykindle.com/2018/06/27/episode-1-24-two-people-can-keep-a-secret-if-one-of-them-is-dead/ Wherein I review: 91. The Stranger by Harlan Coben 92. Brief Cases by Jim Butcher 93. Ghostman (Jack White #1) by Roger Hobbs What would you do to keep a secret? Harlan Coben suggests you would embark on a decades long coverup that involves the murder of your childhood friends. Roger Hobbs believes in going full ghost on the heisting. And Jim Butcher…returns from the grave!!!!
Wild about Harry?
It feels like a very long time since the last novel was published in the Dresden Files (Skin Game) and with there still being no release date for the next one (Peace Talks) this anthology of short stories forms a much needed chance to at least read something new! I should note that some of these stories have been published in other anthologies so it’s worth checking that before buying but there is one completely new novella included. These stories are set at varying points […]
Harry’s long dark night of the soul.
See, this is why we need half stars. This book right here. This is not a five star book for me, but I liked it better than four stars, also, and feel weird rating it the same as other books I’ve rated four stars and enjoyed less. It is a perfect encapsulation of the 4.5 star book. So round up or down? Up or down? It is a terrible decision. Don’t read on if you haven’t read through book twelve. Spoilers ahoy. A little bit […]
