Hey kids, the Denarians are back. Parkour!

June 25, 2014 by Emmalita 1 Comment

It’s strange writing a review of Skin Game.  As the 15th book of The Dresden Files it is not the place to start for the new reader, and for the long time Dresden fan, I can’t imagine any review would make any difference.  So I’m writing this review because my other option for celebrating the publication, taking up the sport of parkour, just isn’t an option.   Nicodemus Archleone and the Denarians are my favorite of Harry’s foes.  Nicodemus has inflicted terrible damage on […]

I’m glad I don’t have the sort of birthday parties Harry Dresden gets thrown

May 11, 2014 by Malin Leave a Comment

Dudes, this is book 14 in the series. Do NOT start with this one. Do NOT read this review if you haven’t read books 12 and 13, there will be spoilers, because it’s pretty much unavoidable when reviewing this book. If you’re interested in the series, I would recommend starting with nr 4, Summer Knight. I would also like to heartily endorse the audio books, narrated excellently by James Marsters. I’m hiding the review behind the link so as to avoid anyone being inadvertently spoiled. If you, however, have read […]

The one with all the Harry Dresden short stories

April 25, 2014 by Malin 1 Comment

This is a collection of short stories featuring Harry Dresden, and Jim Butcher introduces each one, explaining which collection it was first included in, or what purpose it was written for. I wouldn’t advise anyone who hasn’t read up to, and finished, at least book 12, Changes, as the last novella in the book takes place immediately after the events in that book, and it contains several spoilers. This month’s monthly motif is Short and Sweet, to read short story collection or anthologies. Which fit pretty much perfectly for me […]

A lot of things can change in six months

3.5 stars Again, this is a book that I don’t actually want to post about here, because if you haven’t read the previous 12 books in the series, it’s probably best if you know as little as possible about what this book is about. If you have read the previous 12, and this book, and want my take on it, feel free to check my thought over on my blog. I promise I’ll start posting actual reviews here real soon.

The one where Jim Butcher turns things up to 11

April 12, 2014 by Malin 5 Comments

Seriously, I don’t even want to say anything about the book here, for fear of spoiling things. I’m not going to put a picture of the cover, I’m just going to say that the book completely blew me away. I kept being amazed at the things Butcher put poor Harry through in this book, and just the lengths to which he went to completely turn everything that had gone before on its head in this book. If you have read the book, and are curious […]

Likable Enough

April 12, 2014 by Julia in Austin 12 Comments

Everybody loves the Dresden Files. It’s so popular that the 15th book in the series is coming out sometime this year. And I can see why. Jim Butcher certainly knows his craft: story, pacing, characters, all the elements are working together. It’s a fun book. It’s a quick read, never boring. It’s good. Really. I just didn’t love it. You know what I mean? Harry Dresden is everything you could want in a hero, he’s perfectly imperfect. He’s a man with a solid philosophy of what […]
