And with this I reach my Cannonball! I honestly never thought I’d be so fast (last year it took until December for me to reach it). Now I can take slow down a little and pick up a few of the longer books I have waiting next to my bed (and on my audible playlist). There’s a fair amount of you around these parts that read The Dresden Files, and the audio as well is super popular. It came up on sale on audible, and […]
Susan is a problem.
My initial review of this book cracks me up (see below). Yeah, sure, Ashley. Final verdict. Not your cup. Woosh woosh woosh (that was the sound of time passing) oh wait, you love this series now, you bobo. Since I finally fell in love with this series around book ten or so (it was just “like” from book four on), I’ve theorized that if I were ever to revisit the first three books I would feel differently about them, and that turned out to be […]
I’d hang out with Bigfoot around a campfire. He seems like a cool dude.
This is a fun little novella/short story collection set in the Dresdenverse. Three linked short stories are included here, taking place at varying times throughout Harry’s history. “B is for Bigfoot” takes place after Fool Moon, “I Was a Teenage Bigfoot” occurs after Dead Beat, and “Bigfoot on Campus” is sandwiched between Turn Coat and Changes, so the Harry in this collection is the Harry from Before, still working as a wizard PI. All in all, I found this book to be a fun, light […]
My least favorite in the series.
The continuing adventures of Ashley/narfna re-reading The Dresden Files in 3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . . PARTY. I’m not sure exactly why I thought this book was better than the first one when I read it seven (seven! gross, that’s so many) years ago, but if you care to read my initial review, which I have included in the parentheses following this sentence, you’ll see that was indeed the case. (Original review from August 2009: “Better than the first one. I’m hanging in […]
I’m so conflicted, I want to love this series so much and yet there is just so much that pushes me away
I’m so conflicted on this one. On one hand Cold Days is an enjoyable romp through some crazy storytelling where the world gets expanded and Harry faces some pretty rough challenges. But on the other, reading it was like walking through a minefield. I was never sure when I was next going to be slimed by the male gaze, hit with unrepentant misogyny, or bombed with gender essentialism bullshit. And while a LOT of those mines can be justified with the character of Harry Dresden, […]
Returning to a series I had abandoned
I abandoned The Dresden Files after Changes, not because I thought the story got bad or Butcher pissed me off with a story line, I just stopped reading. I thought the story had come to a conclusion I was happy with, and so just didn’t read any further. Perhaps if I’d had Ghost Story immediately after finishing Changes I would have continued, but I didn’t and when Ghost Story was finally released I was happy with the conclusion I’d drawn across the series. However Ingres77 and […]
