An Ode to Cookies in Space, or Why We Fight

Eclipse the Moon by Jessie Mihalik

June 13, 2022 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I love the humanism of the domestic that Jessie Mihalik brings to her sci-fi romance adventures. Can it be cozy sci-fi if there are shootouts, kidnappings, and chases? Maybe cozy sci-fi is the wrong term, it certainly falls within soft sci-fi.  In addition to the romance at the center of this sci-fi adventure, there is care taking, affection, and a badass woman who cries when she is overwhelmed, but still gets the job done. The crew of Starlight’s Shadow cook real food, eat together, and […]

I read this book back in February, sorry for the rather lacklustre review

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik

June 9, 2022 by Malin 1 Comment

Hello, welcome back to Malin reviews things she read several months ago, in this case – FIVE whole months. Let’s start off with the official book description: Octavia Zarola would do anything to keep her tiny, close-knit bounty hunting crew together—even if it means accepting a job from Torran Fletcher, a ruthless former general and her sworn enemy. When Torran offers her enough credits to not only keep her crew afloat but also hire someone to fix her ship, Tavi knows that she can’t refuse—no […]

“I’m a bounty hunter. I hunt criminals and murderers; I don’t work for them.”

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik

I have basically two responses to a book I absolutely, ridiculously love. I either make tons of highlights because I just love every single line of prose, or I highlight almost nothing because I’m too caught up in the story. This book is definitely of the second variety. It also hits all of the right notes for me, with a focus on found family, a twisty plot, and just enough romance to keep my HEA-loving heart interested. “I’m a bounty hunter. I hunt criminals and […]

Enemies to Lovers, Space Opera Style

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik

November 3, 2021 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

In 2020 I devoured Jessie Mihalik’s Consortium Rebellion series, Polaris Rising, Aurora Blazing, and Chaos Reigning.  Mihalik writes a banger of a sci-fi romance with compelling characters, action, intrigue, and found family. As soon as I heard she was starting a new series with Hunt the Stars, it rocketed on to my most anticipated of 2022 list. It was as good as I thought it would be, and it looks like the second book, Eclipse the Moon, will be out in the summer. I love […]

The cover of Polaris Rising.

Classic space opera with sexy times

Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik

Polaris Rising came on my radar thanks to Instagram Cannonballer Lanezabel recommending it.  I put it on my suggestion list for the Cannonball book exchange and special thank you to Bothari43 for gifting it! Polaris Rising has a classic space opera set up, three powerful ruling houses over see the Royal Consortium.  Each house is always on the hunt for ways to exploit the others and gain greater control of the galaxy.  House members are used as political pieces and accorded extraordinary protections due to the […]

A space action romance that has me looking forward to book two.

Polaris Rising (The Consortium Rebellion, #1) by Jessie Mihalik

March 2, 2020 by narfna 6 Comments

I actually liked the plot and the world better than the romance, so, not my fave there. (Alphaholes are not my thing at all.) But I still liked it! This series takes place in the future, an unspecified amount of time from now, in which the Earth was rendered uninhabitable, and the governing of human society has evolved into a Consortium of three powerful families who rule absolutely (and have retaken Earth for rich people, by invitation only). There are spaceships and faster-than-light travel, advanced […]
