“I’ve seen the film Grease. I’ve seen a film of Greece. I have never seen a film in Greece, or while being greased.”

Ayoade on Ayoade: A Cinematic Odyssey by Richard Ayoade

June 25, 2020 by andtheIToldYouSos 2 Comments

Who better to address the enigma that is Richard Ayoade (speaking of- wouldn’t he make a great Riddler) than Richard Ayoade? I don’t know that I brood. I just occasionally take time out to silently consider the specific ways in which others have wronged me. Ayoade, the elusive filmmaker, has been tracked down by Ayoade, the author and maniac behind both personas. His ability to be so silly and yet so serious- often simultaneously- continues to leave me both baffled and delighted. Even so-called ‘short […]

The Grip of Film by Richard Ayoade

Another Ayoade book! So exciting! Except….wait. This is barely Ayoade. Yes, he wrote it, and yes, he does some narration- “some” being the key word in this situation. The Grip of Film is a fake book written by a fake person (written by Ayoade, naturally). The fake person is Gordy LaSure; a longtime Hollywood vagrant and alleged screenwriter. Gordy is a (purposefully) contemptible character; he has the bravado of The Kids Stays in the Picture with a fraction of the success and (at least) four times the casual […]

A pretentious, but overall fun collection of short stories

August 10, 2016 by Beth Ellen Leave a Comment

So this was my latest audiobook adventure. I’m pretty sure I picked it up when it was on the daily deal, and it was just fine to listen to for some commutes. Bream Gives Me Hiccups is a collection of short stories by Jesse Eisenberg. I only know Jesse through his acting, and while I like him his persona has always felt a little pretentious to me. I didn’t particularly mind, he just felt that way. These short stories have done nothing to persuade me […]
