A half-baked Taylor Swift fanfiction

August 5, 2025 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

Bingo square: Arts The MMC is an art professor and a painter. The FMC is a musician. Evan Winslow is an art professor at a liberal arts college in Dane, Iowa. After his father is exposed as an art fraud just as Evan was starting out as a painter, Evan fights to regain a scrap of respectability in the art world. He is a talented painter, but does not paint as he fears inviting comparisons between his father’s shady business and his own art. Despite […]

I think I prefer her contemporaries

Manic Pixie Dream Earl by Jenny Holiday

July 6, 2025 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars Thanks to Jenny Holiday, Netgalley and Tantor Audio for this ARC. My opinion is my own. Edward “Effie” Astley, Viscount Featherfinch, is a poet and a terrible disappointment to his father. Thankfully, he’s about to set off on the annual “Earl’s trip” with his two best friends, who support him come what may. So they don’t ask any questions when Effie asks them to help him store a broken printing press, nor why he’s so preoccupied with letters from a Miss Evans. Effie […]

Enemies to lovers at a performing arts summer camp

Into the Woods by Jenny Holiday

January 26, 2025 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

Why: Learning that I adore Jenny Holiday’s Christmas in Eldovia trilogy, Emmalita recommended that I should read Into the Woods and I’m glad I did! What: Into the Woods is a contemporary romance.  Wild Arts summer camp is in last minute need of two artists in residence for the July and August sessions.  Through acquaintances Gretchen Miller and Teddy Knight end up filling in for the dance and instrumental music programs respectively.  After an initial round of wrong impressions and then bonding through camp experiences, Gretchen and Teddy […]

Starting my 2025 reading year on a high note

Into the Woods by Jenny Holiday

January 4, 2025 by Malin 4 Comments

This was an ARC I won from the author in a Facebook contest (!) I know, right? My opinions are my own. Gretchen Miller is a self-proclaimed badass, and she’s not lying. After growing up with financial instability, food insecurities and a lot of general uncertainness due to her father’s unpredictability, she became determined never to have to depend on anyone ever again and started earning and saving her own money as a teenager, squirrelling it away for a future project. That project became a […]

Cover of Jenny Holiday’s Into the Woods. A white man with a man bun and a white woman with a pink tipped blonde bob sit snuggled together on a rug, in front of a two person tent. A campfire blazes in front of them.

As I told the yoga people (derogatory), you can’t meditate your way to new shingles.

Into the Woods by Jenny Holiday

This was a delightful listen. Jenny Holiday wrote a wonderful romance, and Kit Swann and Teddy Hamilton did a great job of bringing it to life. We met Gretchen as Rory’s boss and best friend in Canadian Boyfriend, but Into the Woods works perfectly well as a standalone. Gretchen and Teddy each end up in the woods, literally and figuratively, while putting a pause on their respective lives. Gretchen wants to avoid a midlife crisis, so she’s bought a building and plans to expand her […]

Joshua Jackson reads Canadian Boyfriend – updated review audiobook edition

Canadian Boyfriend by Jenny Holiday

February 28, 2024 by Emmalita 1 Comment

After really enjoying my arc of Jenny Holiday’s Canadian Boyfriend I saw the news that Joshua Jackson would be narrating Mike Martin’s part in the audiobook. And then I saw the arc offer and jumped on it. And now I have mixed feelings about it. I’ll start with what I liked. I liked, really liked, the duet format. I want more of this please. It is imperfect, you could really tell at times that the dialogue was recorded at different times and probably different spaces, but […]
