A cool collaboration of thriller writers and characters

Face Off by David Baldacci

April 26, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This is the second collaboration audiobook I’ve borrowed and read from my library.  I got into it because of my buddy Michael Connelly.  If you read my previous review that I just posted, you’ll know that maybe he’s not my buddy after all, but Harry Bosch is.  Conveniently, Harry is in this book! The wording on Goodreads calls this “an unprecedented collaboration”, which sounds very grand.  I didn’t really get it until I looked at all the authors involved and listened to the intro.  Apparently […]

Episode 1-28: Time Keeps On Slipping, Slipping, Slipping

July 30, 2018 by prisco Leave a Comment

https://killingmykindle.com/2018/07/30/episode-1-28-time-keeps-on-slipping-slipping-slipping/ Wherein I review: 108. The October List by Jeffery Deaver 109. The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai 110. Invitation to a Bonfire by Adrienne Celt A mystery that starts with the last chapter and works its way backwards.  One book that jumps between 1985 and 2015 between Chicago and Paris while straddling the AIDS epidemic.  One book told through journal entries and letters from an author while reimagining the Nabokov love triangle.  I loved them all in their own little ways, but I loved […]

https://killingmykindle.com/2018/04/30/episode-1-17-see-you-at-the-crossroads-bone-bone-bone/ Wherein I review: 59. Day Shift (Midnight, Texas #2) by Charlaine Harris 60. Arcanum Unbounded by Brandon Sanderson A residual Sookie Stackhouse trilogy comes to a real f–ker of an end: great characters, AWFUL names. Deaver goes a little off the rails in the latest Lincoln Rhyme mystery.  I keep chugging through […]

I miss you, Secretariat.

Two or three years ago, while we were on vacation in The Berkshires, we spent a day at the Norman Rockwell museum. It was great. We learned a ton about Rockwell and his life and walked around the gorgeous property where he painted. As an added bonus, there was a special exhibit on display, featuring all (or at least a lot) of Edward Hopper’s Cape Cod paintings. This was particularly eye-opening, as I really didn’t know much about Hopper other than that he painted Nighthawks. […]

Probably more like 3.5 stars, but I’ll round up in Bernie’s honor

January 3, 2017 by badkittyuno 3 Comments

I’ve been reading and rereading Lawrence Block’s Bernie Rhodenbarr series for years (like, probably close to 20 years — they were on the shelf above Lillian Jackson Braun’s books at my library and I picked them up at some point in middle school when I’d exhausted The Cat Who…) but I’ve never really read anything else by him — although he’s published quite a bit. I saw his name on this story collection, along with some other favorites (Stephen King, Jeffery Deaver, Lee Child, and Craig Ferguson, […]
