I wish I hadn’t read this, but also I’m glad I did so I can stop worrying about it and just forget it exists.

Oh, man, I have just been dreading writing this review, almost as much as I dreaded reading this book. I refused to pick it up for the longest time. I just couldn’t. It didn’t feel right. For a while I thought I might not read it at all; I was happy with where the story ended, and the little tidbits Jo threw out every once in a while on Twitter or Pottermore. But then my stupid curiosity monster got going, as it always does, and […]

“Ministry of Magic (M.O.M) Classification: XXXXX Known wizard killer / impossible to train or domesticate / or anything Hagrid likes”

First of all, Rowling wrote this book in order to donate the proceedings to charity (specifically, Comic Relief). J.K. Rowling rocks. Also, the book is a lot of fun, which also rocks. And finally, I have a weird thing for Eddie Redmayne, and now I can go see the movie! “Harry: This book belongs to Harry Potter. Ron: Shared by Ron Weasley, because his fell apart. Hermione: Why don’t you buy a new one then? Ron: Write on your own book, Hermione. Hermione: You bought […]

Hogwarts … You Can’t Go Home Again?

October 17, 2016 by xoxoxoe Leave a Comment

The kid and I recently read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Hmmm … I don’t know what to say. I guess I can say that my daughter liked it better than I did. Initially it was wonderful to see favorite characters again — Harry, Ron, Hermione especially. There are even appearances by some folks you might not expect. I won’t spoil it. But … I just didn’t buy it. This was not who I imagined Harry, Ron, Hermione to be as adults. There are so […]

A little magic, a little nostalgia

October 13, 2016 by Sophia Leave a Comment

I have read all seven of the Harry Potter books and seen all of the movies (although I think I slept through most of the last movie). So of course I was going to read the new Harry Potter book…eventually. I just didn’t think I would get to it so quickly. My book club decided that we had to read it immediately. So I found myself picking up Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (2016) by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne. I’ve fallen a […]

Well, it’s going to be a great play!

This is a tough one…I loved the Harry Potter books but this isn’t technically an 8th book, because we all know Rowling said she was done with the books. So she came up with a new story for a theater production and the screenplay was printed in book format. So first, let’s sort out who actually wrote what. From what I can surmise, the story is a collaborative work by Rowling, Thorne, and Tiffany. But the screenplay itself was written by Jack Thorne. So what […]

To suffer is as human as to breathe.

August 31, 2016 by borisanne 2 Comments

Any time that there’s new Harry Potter, I become about 15 years younger, and squeeeeeeeeeee. So, of course, new Potter, and I’m there. Full disclosure, I work in theater. Large-scale theater. Big shows. This show is in my work realm. So reading new Potter, but in script form, it was hard to turn off my work brain. “Is that a quickchange?” “need more details about that prop” “are they going to eat that, or can it be glue?” etc. These are the notes that I […]
