Race against the tide

Crystal Cave (Sueño Bay Adventures, Volume 5) by Nancy Deas and Mike Deas

October 11, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

For the most part, you can read Crystal Cave (Sueño Bay Adventures, Volume 5) by Nancy Deas and Mike Deas separately from the others in the series. However, I am assuming it probably is best to start with book one, Shadow Island (I wasn’t sure who/what the pet/friend of our main character was). The story itself is not necessarily a new one, but it is told in a fun way that keeps you reading. Good illustrations and a nice fantasy/mystery/realistic story. The idea is that […]

Is It Bad If You Figure Out The Mystery?

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

January 29, 2021 by janet snakehole 3 Comments

For a large portion of These Pandemic Times, I’ve been in a phase where all I can read are mystery stories and Maeve Binchy. This state of mind is reminiscent of when I was pregnant with my first child and read only Agatha Christie and the occasional Western. There was already a lot going on for my brain to deal with, and I needed something with pretty clear good guys and bad guys. I needed a fun puzzle that wasn’t going to stress me out, […]

All great journeys start with a single step

Pears and Perils by Drew Hayes

May 25, 2019 by crystalclear 1 Comment

This is one of the first novels that Drew Hayes wrote, and like all of his other work it is completely different from his other stuff.  The basic premise is that three people have won a cash prize and an all-expense-paid vacation from a burger joint contest. The catch is that the money and  “vacation” is in exchange for the winners to be in a promo commercial for their new “Island Burger.” They are supposed to participate in a local island ritual to release a […]

Oh, Imperialism….

October 10, 2017 by Ale Leave a Comment

Somehow I never heard about this book until I read Sir Pratchett’s non-fiction where he references it. I don’t know how I could have missed this awesome story, but I’m glad I picked it up to read on vacation. In normal Pratchett fashion, it’s hilarious, provocative, and deep. In happenstance, it was also interesting to read about a small island nation that gets hit with a hurricane while vacationing in a small island nation that narrowly missed a hurricane. “Nation” encompasses two interlocking stories, […]
