Never a Dull Moment

Axiom’s End by Lindsay Ellis

September 10, 2022 by sabian30 Leave a Comment

I was reading this novel in the Apple Store (while waiting for them to check out my MacBook Air), when one of the techs came up to me and said how much he enjoyed Axiom’s End. I love it when a fellow reader sees your book and makes a comment. I agreed with him and was surprised when he told me there was a second book! I’ll have to look for it. I found Axiom’s End while using the RSS feed on Cannonball to find […]

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green

January 21, 2019 by CoffeeShopReader 2 Comments

Stop me if you’ve hear this before: mysterious giant metallic objects, robot/sculptures in this this case, suddenly appear all over the world and humanity at first freaks out, then adjusts. A hero, April May in this case, who likely had something to do with the first contact believes that the Carls are not threatening, and works to figure out […]

Beneath the gorgeous exterior, there’s a vacant husk of humanity.

So, I quite enjoyed the first book in Moss’ Fear Saga, Fear the Sky. I thought it was a fairly unique take on the alien invasion story, and was built around the foreboding notion that we would be able to watch the encroachment of our doom for a solid 10 years leading up to the armada’s arrival. The fact that it was structured like an espionage/spy thriller sold me on the series, despite qualms over relatively bland, uninteresting characters. Fear the Survivors continues in much […]

No, not that Martian. The other one.

If you’ve somehow made it this far in life without at least hearing of this book, you are both a marvel and curiosity. To give you a basic run down of the plot: the world is invaded by Martians around the turn of the previous century, and humanity is woefully ill-equipped to fend off the invaders. In other words, have you ever seen a movie or read a book or heard someone tell a story in which aliens invade earth? It no doubt owes at […]
