Gearing up for the grand sex criminals finale. #CBRBingo

October 31, 2018 by narfna 2 Comments

I liked this a lot better than the last one, which made me feel like the series was starting to become aimless and no fun. It’s still not as purely fun here as it was in the first two volumes, but a lot of things were course corrected, and the last couple of pages were great. Suzie and Jon are both not doing so well post-breakup. Suzie is with the world’s most ‘meh’ man, and Jon is in an open relationship with a lovely woman […]

So how do the robots eat or drink anyway? HOW DO THEY KISS WITH NO MOUTHS.

It says something about this series that this heart-wrenching volume of storytelling is a relief after the last one. Oy, that last one was rough. But this was one was more bittersweet than bitter. Something that I have always appreciated about this series is its tone. Like real life, everything isn’t all bad or all good all the time. Real life is messy, and you can feel many things at once. Real life has hills and valleys, and flat plains. One of the reasons I […]

Where is this series going? I’m not sure I like it . . .

A character in this wears a “Pobody’s Nerfect” t-shirt*, and that was the thing I was most amused by, so that should tell you my overall feelings about it, if the rating hasn’t already. *PSA: Watch The Good Place. It is a damn delight. This is the first volume of this series that I haven’t really enjoyed in full. Parts of it were engaging but mostly I found it depressing and uninteresting. That may be just me right now, or it might be the series having […]

My least favorite Saga installments are the ones where things get tough.

November 7, 2017 by narfna Leave a Comment

I heard almost immediately from friends and friends of friends that this was really sad, so I waited months to read it, when normally I’m all over new Saga like cat hair on black pants. It’s like, I get there are going to be sad installments of this series. I do. This is the story of Hazel’s life from beginning, to, well, I don’t know if they’ll end with her being old, but certainly with her as an adult. And there is no way that […]

Proud Little Pawns/No Quiet Way

July 18, 2017 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

This was another comic book that was recommended, but I haven’t had a chance to get around to until now. Velvet Templeton is the secretary for the director of a secret black-ops spy agency. It sounds like Archer’s ISIS, but without the loveable crew of weirdos, incompetents, and Lana. If it were, Velvet would be Lana masquerading as Cheryl. Velvet wasn’t always behind a desk. When a current operative and a retired operative are murdered, Velvet finds herself framed and needing to call on her […]

Joining the Family/Family Fight Night

June 29, 2017 by Emmalita 6 Comments

I’ve got a ComiXology Unlimited free trial so there will be a lot of comic book reviews from me in the next few days. Lazarus Volume 2: Lift expands the world and shows us some important moments in Forever’s training. The issues collected in this volume revolve around joining the Family, and what it means to be Waste. We open with Forever as a child training to be a Lazarus. Her father visits and hangs the threat of being disowned over her head if she isn’t […]
