This book made me so angry that I have to remind myself what I liked about it so I don’t rate it lower then I already have.

Seriously, this book really frustrated me and it’s hard not to focus on those frustrations to the detriment of the novel. It is however, a perfect example of why I will never claim Ilona Andrews as a favorite author. I often find that their books have a subtle current of misogyny/gender issues which is easily overlooked because in general I like everything that surrounds that current and it’s a small current. That current ebbs and flows depending on the novel and oh boy did high […]

My Dad is a Paranoid Megalomanic Wizard Who Refuses to Respect my Boundaries.

September 25, 2016 by Emmalita 5 Comments

Short non-spoilery review – this is a solid entry in an excellent series. If you aren’t reading the Kate Daniels series, you should start. On to the longer and inevitably spoilery review (there is no way to talk about book 9 in a series without getting spoilery). Planning a wedding was never going to be Kate’s favorite thing to do, but tensions rising with her father and oracles calling with dark prophecies push wedding planning even farther down the list of priorities. Worse, Kate’s claiming […]

“You’re like a crazy cat lady, but you collect killers instead of fluffy cats.”

September 24, 2016 by Malin 1 Comment

4.5 stars Spoiler warning! This is book nine in the Kate Daniels series. The penultimate book in the series, in fact. I will not be able to review this book without there being spoilers for earlier books. Don’t read this if you’re not all the way caught up. Do pick up the series if you like good Urban/Paranormal fantasy, though, it’s pretty much the best out there at the moment.  Private detective and supernatural powerhouse Kate Daniels is finally getting married to Curran Lennart, former […]

If only these novels stayed in The Edge

July 12, 2016 by melanir Leave a Comment

Confession, I only read half of this novel and then the last chapter. I don’t know if there are going to be any more books in this series, but I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of them. I’m about a week and a half out of finishing this one (which is actually unique, I tend to review immediately after finishing so the thoughts are all still fresh. But I was on vacation and have quite a backlog of books to review, oops) and I’m […]

Borderlands means black and white morality I guess?

June 30, 2016 by melanir Leave a Comment

I just don’t know you guys. I really enjoyed the first and second book in this series but this is a major dud. To be honest, I couldn’t make it through the novel. I read to about the 60% mark and then read the last chapter to get all the information I need for the next book. I really wasn’t impressed. The plot is super, SUPER, convoluted. I’m honestly not even sure where to begin, but this is how Goodreads summarizes it. Audrey Callahan left […]

Magic Times in the Cajun Swamp

June 24, 2016 by melanir Leave a Comment

Bayou Moon is the follow up to On the Edge. It’s not a direct sequel, and can be read on its own, but it does star some characters from that novel. It is again, light, easy to read fare. This time we go to a part of the Edge which exists between the state (here in our mundane world) of Louisiana and the Magical country of Louisiana. It’s magic times in the Cajun swamp is what I’m saying. If I’m perfectly honest, I don’t really […]
