I’ll Give You the Sun is a book that is going to stick around with me for a long time I think, maybe forever. After I finished reading it, I cried because I was done reading it. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before with a YA book, not trying to knock YA too hard but it’s sometimes hard to find the “literature” part in some of the YA lit I’ve been reading. Not so here. Jandy Nelson’s writing is amazing, the word choice, the […]
Make a Wish, Take a Chance, Remake the World
I start all of my review drafts with the Cannonball Read number because that used to be how we formatted our titles way back in Cannonball Read Four. So, Holy motherforking shirtballs everyone, I just typed CBR10 for the first time as relates to a review. Let’s do this! I try to select my books carefully for the “big” reviews of the year, so while packing for holiday travel I grabbed my copy of I’ll Give You the Sun from my bedside table and tucked […]
I really don’t care where the sky is at this point.
I just came back from a long vacation in northern Washington. Lots of outdoor activities, which means no cell phone, no internet, no cable or tv at all. But lots of reading. I loved it so much, I went and downloaded her first book, The Sky is Everywhere, […]
I think it might be quite emotionally exhausting to be a twin
Did you miss me, guys? I’m going to try to finally tackle the massive backlog of reviews I have (more than a quarter Cannonball at this rate), so expect much more from me in the days to come. Jude and Noah are twins and have always been very close, to the point where they seem able to communicate without words, reading each other’s minds. During the summer when they are thirteen, things are changing. Getting ready to apply to a creative arts high school, Noah […]
Read this. That is all.
When I finished reading this, I immediately went to the CBR website to see what others had said about it, so that I could make comments on its awesomeness. I was quite surprised to see that there aren’t any reviews of this book up on the blog. I’m actually shocked that there hasn’t been more buzz about I’ll Give You the Sun. It seems such a perfect, “cannonball-ish” book. And it has such a pretty cover! Noah and Jude are twins. They used to be […]
