I still don’t understand how you get “Jet” from “Margaret.” CBRBINGO – ‘N’

Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson

September 27, 2025 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was a bit of a disappointment for me, but I still had an overall good time with it. I don’t understand why Holly Jackson keeps writing books about Americans when she is very British. (Nothing of hers has hit for me like A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.) There was also a key moment at the end of the book that was totally dumb and out of character, which I’m deducting 0.25 stars for. But the mystery was very well plotted and intricate, and […]

“When you catch someone lying about a murdered girl, you go ask them why”

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

February 14, 2023 by Malin Leave a Comment

CBR15 Passport Challenge – New to me author Five years ago, blonde and beautiful high school girl Andie Bell was murdered, although no one ever found her body, despite careful searching. However, Andie’s boyfriend Sal Singh confessed in a text message to his dad and then committed suicide before he could be arrested by the police. So everyone knows that he did it, and the case is closed. Pippa Fitz-Amobi remembers Sal Singh as a kind and considerate young man, with a promising university career […]

Mum and Nan are going to love this

Five Survive by Holly Jackson

February 3, 2023 by thegirlwhogotoverit Leave a Comment

As the family’s Designated Reader, I usually make a note of who the book is destined for – The Best Niece in Australia gets the quality YA, my brother gets most Fantasy, and anything involving violent death and appropriate comeuppance has Mum and Nan written all over it. Everyone in Five Survive is off to Spring Break – though they’re high school students, this falls somewhere between YA and New Adult.  Red and Maya, best friends forever, Maya’s older brother and his girlfriend, their long […]

December 23, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

Dudes, I read this so fast. Nobody says dudes anymore except for me. Sometimes I call my boss dude, just coz, and he’s like, Did you just call me dude? Anyhoodle, I read this book so fast, like super fast. There is something about this series that just gets to me. I love it. Even when it is not being the best objectively. I was so happy when I found out that this book was in large part going to be about consequences just like […]

Good Job, Pickle

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

August 28, 2022 by esmemoria 1 Comment

CBR Bingo: Font I picked Holly Jackson’s A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder for the font square because the book has a lot of different fonts in the text. The book uses a variety fonts to indicate things like the main character Pippa’s interview transcripts, text messages between characters, hand-written notes about the crime, and a scary note that shows up in formal font warning Pippa away from her investigation. I have a fondness (font-ness! hahahaha) for handwriting fonts, and there are some good ones […]
