The Jock and the Nerd, 20 years later

Writing Mr. Wrong by Kelley Armstrong

August 3, 2025 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Bingo Square – Arts (one character is a writer – this could have also fit into Play with the hockey but I have something else in mind for that square) I was surprised when I saw that Kelley Armstrong was writing contemporary romances since I had first discovered her through her urban fantasy series, Women of the Otherworld– then again, I read broadly across genres so it makes sense that an author would have a variety of interests. This is the second of her contemporary […]

2024 Was The Year Of The Hockey Novel

Slap Shot by Kat Mizera

Ice Breaker by Hanna Grace

The Boyfriend Goal by Lauren Blakely

Thoroughly Pucked by Lauren Blakely

December 30, 2024 by thegirlwhogotoverit 1 Comment

There are SO MANY hockey romances around, you guys!!  I read a random sampling of them over the course of the year.  Please, allow my sacrifice to guide you, as you choose more wisely than I did. Slap Shot was a fun if forgettable romance.  First in the series, but the subsequent novels were, according to my notes, “too expensive to be worth it.”  My thumbnails are occasionally rude like that. Juliet heads to a hockey match, and gets hit in the head by a […]

Pucking Wrong about sums it up

The Pucking Wrong Man by C.R. Jane

July 21, 2024 by katie71483 1 Comment

The Pucking Wrong Man is C.R. Jane’s fourth installment in her Pucking Wrong series, and it is all kinds of messed up as indicated by the title. Trigger Warnings of all kinds should be observed when it comes to this series, but especially this book. You may be asking yourself, “Katie, why are you reading this if you know it’s a walking trigger warning?” Which, completely justified. Let me share a brief synopsis and then we’ll get into the cringe-y stuff. Camden James is 31 and […]

Now they can go and be awful together

Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

May 5, 2024 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

Jamie Canning always wondered why his best friend from elite summer hockey camp ghosted him. He has an idea though, and it’s the semi-drunken hookup they had during their last week of camp. Still, to Jamie, one bad decision shouldn’t break up a seven-year friendship. Years later at the Frozen Four (cringe) college national championship, Jamie and Wes manage to chat a bit. It is still awkward, but they both push through it with the hopes that they can at least be friendly acquaintances. So, […]

He couldn’t tell them that the right one had come along, and it was the pissed-off Russian man heading to the penalty box.

Heated Rivalry (Game Changers #2) by Rachel Reid

The Long Game (Game Changers #6) by Rachel Reid

Heated Rivalry Ilya smiled to himself. He actually loved this. He loved being on the road, and disappointing home crowds across North America. He loved the insults, the booing, and, most of all, the sound of a crowd so gutted by his team’s performance that they couldn’t even bother to boo. A winded, humiliated crowd. That was Ilya’s favorite sound. ― Rachel Reid, Heated Rivalry “Um, and this is….Ilya. Rozanov. You probably know that.” What were they, exactly? It occurred to Shane that he and […]
