I picked this one up because after reading Fool Me Twice, since I wanted to read the story of the Duke of Marwick’s brother and Elizabeth Chudderley. However, I think I may have been in more of a Loretta Chase mood since I also picked up Miss Wonderful around the same time to learn more about Alastair Carsington, the brother whose engagement Rupert refers to mournfully a few times in Mr. Impossible. Basically, it is not that this is a bad romance novel, but I […]
Could Someone Send This to Chris Hemsworth as a script?
I don’t usually visualize characters that specifically when reading, having vague ideas of “attractive man” in my head. This novel, however, proved the exception, since I couldn’t help but see Rupert Carsington as Chris Hemsworth. More specifically, Thor: Ragnarok Chris Hemsworth with a smidge of the huntsman from Winter’s War (because of the smirk). Rupert is another one of Chase’s hellions, never one to shy away from a fight, someone who will help the weak, surprises other characters with the occasional tidbit of knowledge when […]
A long-awaited book, not my favorite, but still worth the wait.
I was underwhelmed by the first book in this series when it was published in 2015, and to be honest, I was a little underwhelmed by this one, although it’s a definite improvement. My main complaint with Once Upon a Marquess was that it was too scattered, and the main characters individually and as a couple suffered for it. I also thought their chemistry was a little forced. Both of those complaints were non-existent for me, here. And where I found little sister Theresa an […]
The smuggler and the war hero – a marriage of convenience
Christopher “Kit” Ellingsworth was given an Earldom for his bravery during the Napoleonic wars. It doesn’t really bring in any money, though, so Kit is pretty much penniless and mounting up debts living the life of a libertine upon his return to London, everything to forget his time in battle. Hence he is surprised when he is told his mentor wishes to leave him a substantial fortune…as long as he finds a wife within the next month. It doesn’t leave him very much time to […]
The importance of choosing and being chosen in return
I was very kindly granted an ARC of this book in return for an unbiased review. I had already pre-ordered the book when I was given the ARC. The book is on sale now, and I recommend that you buy it. This is the second novel in The Worth Saga. While it might work fine as a stand alone book, I would recommend beginning with the first book in the series, Once Upon a Marquess, to get a better idea of whom all the various supporting characters from […]
Does It Really Count As Twice If Someone Else Fooled You First?
After The Sins of Lord Lockwood, Malin told me the rest of Duran’s novel were all good if angsty romances as long as I avoided At Your Pleasure. As a result, I decided to go back a bit further in the Rules for the Reckless series but for some reason picked the second one rather than the first one. Who knows what my thought process was there. Based on the references, I definitely want to read the stories of Marwick’s brother and Elizabeth, and Olivia’s […]
