A f/f Regency romance from a major publishing house. It’s a unicorn!

The Lady's Guide to Celestial Mechanics (Feminine Pursuits, #1) by Olivia Waite

December 20, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

For the most part I enjoyed this, despite a pretty significant misstep near the end. Firstly, I just want to say how happy I was when I heard this was being published. I have been looking for a historical romance f/f novel for a while now. I put out a call to my romance reading friends about six, seven months ago, and there were several novellas we turned up, but most published f/f is contemporary right now, and that’s not really my genre. And the […]

One of my favorite books I read in 2019.

Think of England by K.J. Charles

December 20, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

I loved this! It hit all my K.J. Charles sweet spots: historically accurate time period indulgence; unique main characters with great chemistry; a plot that not only holds my attention, but actually makes me look forward to it; that thing she does all the time but so casually, where she takes a time period and shows that it wasn’t just full of straight white people; and of course, all that character culmination results in good sex scenes that are not only sexy, but also illuminate […]

Didn’t really work for me, but will give the author a couple more tries. Yes, Malin and Mrs. J, I will be reading #5 next :)

The Perils of Pleasure (Pennyroyal Green, #1) by Julie Anne Long

December 20, 2019 by narfna 2 Comments

This just never really clicked for me. I’m going to try a couple more books by this author and see how it goes, though. I had a good enough time with it, but I never really connected with the characters outside of a handful of moments, and I didn’t think the main couple really connected with each other, either. I also felt the central premise was kind of wasted. It started out pretty great. I like the concept of the feuding families being the center […]

Julie Anne Long’s return to historical romance is more successful than Lisa Kleypas’

Angel in a Devil's Arms by Julie Anne Long

Official book description: He has devil’s blood in his veins. At least, that’s always been the legend. How else could the Duke of Brexford’s notorious bastard son return from the dead? Sex Mystery sounds like a genre I want to read much more of.

Hither, Page (Page & Sommers, #1) by Cat Sebastian

December 3, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

Well, the sex part of this certainly wasn’t as prevalent as the mystery, but it did deliver on Sebastian’s other promise, which was “Agatha Christie, but make it gay.” Small English village, check. The mysterious murder of one of their own, check. The discovery that the small village is hiding a bunch of secrets, check. An outsider coming in to unearth those secrets, check. Lonely spy falls in love with traumatized country doctor, check. This was very sweet in terms of the romance, and pretty […]

“Here was life, gently reminding her that she could care again. That her grief was allowed, but so was her joy.”

Mrs. Martin's Incomparable Adventure by Courtney Milan

October 8, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was a little on the nose in parts (mostly dialogue), but it was also full of spit and vinegar. I could feel Courtney Milan’s rage (tempered with good humor) on every page, and it wasn’t an incoherent rage, more like a well-harnessed one. The rest of her body of work shows compassion for men caught up in the same patriarchal system that puts women at an inherent disadvantage, but I guess she just needed let this one rip, just let out a pure expression […]
