Worth it for the hilarious conversation about orchids alone

A Beastly Kind of Earl by Mia Vincy

December 30, 2020 by Malin Leave a Comment

Some years ago (I want to say three?), two noblemen lied at a ball and claimed to have slept with Miss Thea Knight. She was humiliated and scandalised and both family and high society rejected her. She’s been living lonely in the country under an assumed name as a ladies’ companion. Now she’s pretending to be her younger sister at a house party, so said sister can run away to Gretna Green and marry her true love. She also plans to publish a pamphlet with […]

Satisfying conclusion to a fun romp.

Chasing Cassandra (The Ravenels #6) by Lisa Kleypas

December 30, 2020 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

All right. Let’s just get this out the way: I’m not going to be completing my Cannonball this year. I’ve got a few reviews still up my sleeve, but mid 40s is as good as I’m going to get. But in any year, that’s okay, and in this year ESPECIALLY it is okay. I went from a 2 1/2 hours in the car each workday to, well, zero, which cut into my audiobook time. Plus ya know, the crippling pandemic and whatnot put a severe […]

Another Loretta Chase novel pairing a big, strong lug and a clever, opinionated woman. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase

December 28, 2020 by Malin 2 Comments

Official book description: Cassandra Pomfret holds strong opinions she isn’t shy about voicing. But her extremely plain speaking has caused an uproar, and her exasperated father, hoping a husband will rein her in, has ruled that her beloved sister can’t marry until Cassandra does.   Now, thanks to a certain wild-living nobleman, the last shreds of Cassandra’s reputation are about to disintegrate, taking her sister’s future and her family’s good name along with them.   The Duke of Ashmont’s looks make women swoon. His character […]

Love was the last thing on their minds

Destiny's Captive by Beverly Jenkins

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon

December 21, 2020 by teresaelectro 6 Comments

Romance has been a great salve for the general pandemic malaise. I’ve been loving own voices books featuring Black protagonists finding love, even when it was absolutely the last thing on their minds. These three novels all written by Black women were refreshing and reminded me why I love this genre. I absolutely love reading about an independent woman who falls in love with a sexy man who has his act together. I picked up Destiny’s Captive by Beverly Jenkins from the library. I had […]

“Your hand is unconscionably soft, Miss Eversea”

What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long

December 17, 2020 by Emmalita 8 Comments

In the comments of my review of two contemporary age gap romances, Daddy Crush and Your Dad Will Do, Mrs. Julien reminded me of What I Did for a Duke. I first reviewed this back in 2015 and looking back at my review all I really see is how much I valued (and continue to value) Malin and Mrs. Julien. This book is a tour de force and I don’t think I appreciated that the first time I read it. I haven’t reread any of […]

Devil in a Black Dress (Belated Bingo – Money)

Devil's Daughter (The Ravenels, #5) by Lisa Kleypas

November 15, 2020 by cheerbrarian 1 Comment

I am relatively new to the genre of romance novel. And by that I mean I’m a newborn baby, because this is only the second one that I’ve ever read. Luckily a good friend of mine is an avid romance reader and she has been my romance sherpa making suggestions. The first book I read was also by Lisa Kleypas so I figured if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This for me fit the Money bingo square in a number of ways. I mean, […]
