A strong finish to a nicely done series.

Wonderstruck by Allie Therin

February 1, 2021 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Wonderstruck is a strong finish for Allie Therin’s historical urban fantasy series, Magic in Manhattan. To recap, Arthur “Ace” Kensie is the younger son of a wealthy and politically powerful New York family. As a lieutenant in the army fighting in WWI, he discovered that magic exists. Though he has no magic, he becomes part of an unofficial group of magic users trying to protect the world from paranormals who want to use magic for evil reasons. Theodore “Rory” Brodigan (not his real name) is […]

Isn’t it nice to discover we’re not exactly what we thought we were.

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

Ah, yes! Thankfully book four helped to sweep book three under the rug. Benedict, I am happy to report, is nowhere to be found and I hope that he stays in the country painting his watercolors, or whatever, for the remainder of the books. For those of you reading prior to watching, this is the book where the whistle is blown on Whistledown. I’m glad that I have put off watching the Netflix series until reading at least this book as I hear that Lady […]

“Nobody saw a half-Chinese boy of thirteen and thought, ‘By George, that child must be a duke.'”

The Duke Who Didn't (Wedgeford Trials, #1) by Courtney Milan

If you are in the mood for a low stakes, low conflict book, the equivalent of a warm hug followed by maybe a tickle or an affectionate pinch on the bum, then this is the book for you. Also, if you are hungry! Don’t read this. Or, do. And then cook the recipes Ms. Milan has so thoughtfully provided on her website. You know what, I take back the thing about the pinch, because that doesn’t seem enjoyable. Maybe a pat instead? Anyway I was […]

An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

January 26, 2021 by LanierHgts 2 Comments

I am not a connoisseur of the romance genre but will occasionally pick up a book that I have seen recommended somewhere (or that is free for kindle).  With all of the Bridgerton hype on Netflix, I figured I would read some of the books before I delved into the show.  Also, I like historical fiction.  So I checked out of my local library the first three books in the series.  This review will cover all three books.  Warning: spoiler alert. I really liked these […]

I forgot to remember to forget…

The Binding by Bridget Collins

January 25, 2021 by esme 1 Comment

Do you have a memory or many memories that never fail to bring pain or shame or grief? What if you could have that memory just disappear? You would never be reminded of the memory, because, even if someone started talking about the event that created the memory, you wouldn’t be able to hear them. You wouldn’t even know that you made the memory disappear. In some ways, that sounds incredibly liberating – imagine not being weighed down by something you did or said or, […]

He liked that she was helpless.

An Offer From a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

January 24, 2021 by Leedock 4 Comments

Well, more of an abduction than an offer and definitely not from a gentleman. While I truly enjoyed the Bridgerton books 1-2, I had to hate read this one. Buckle up. This review is going to be 250+ words full of WTF. It definitely struck a different cord with me than it did with a lot of other Cannonballers. Perhaps there is a reason that the second Bridgerton son, Benedict, is mostly absent or just lingering around in the background in the first two books. BECAUSE HE […]
