“In any event,” Percy went on, “what I had thought were principles were merely manners, and they’re utterly insufficient for my present circumstance.”

The Queer Principles of Kit Webb by Cat Sebastian

July 21, 2021 by narfna 6 Comments

**30 Books in 30 Days** Book 30/30 Thanks to Netgalley and Avon for the ARC. It hasn’t affected the content of my review. For some reason I thought this was a f/f historical? Like, for a very long time. I requested it on Netgalley just to see if they would give it to me, and they did! And then when I got it I realized those weren’t ladies on the cover, but dudes, and this was about a highwayman and a lord falling in love! […]

Enjoyed reading this one!

Who's that Earl by Susanna Craig

July 15, 2021 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

Home: while I’m not saying it’s a epic saga about the journey to find a place to call home, whether Jane will finally get to call a place home (or if Thomas will come and take Dunnock away from her) is a main plot point! Based on a rec from llamareadsbooks for the second in the series! So I will say that I enjoyed this and stayed in bed one morning in lieu of going to work to read it. It’s the first book in […]

A Swindle, a Romance, and Beautifully Described Music

The Hellion's Waltz by Olivia Waite

July 10, 2021 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.  The Hellion’s Waltz is the third book in Olivia Waite’s Feminine Pursuits series (the first book, The Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics was published in 2019 and the second Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows last year). As I said in my review of The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows, one of the things I love most in good romance writing is when authors interact with larger themes. These […]

Double Cannonballing with a good series-ender.

Subtle Blood (The Will Darling Adventures, #3) by K.J. Charles

July 10, 2021 by narfna 11 Comments

**30 Books in 30 Days** Book 23/30 To be honest, I think if (when) I read all three books in this series back to back in the future, I will bump up both books two and three from four to five stars. It has been top notch in all areas: romance, class examinations, mysteries, historical fiction set in the 1920s, books about friendship, books about secret agents and spies, suspense novels. Seriously, just in all the things this series sets out to do, it succeeds […]

The best book in this series so far.

The Devil Comes Courting (The Worth Saga, #4) by Courtney Milan

July 9, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

**30 Books in 30 Days** Book 19/30 The wait was incredibly worth it on this one. We waited years, and this is by far the best full novel in this series (the novella The Pursuit Of . . . is wonderful, too). First of all, according to the author’s notes of this book, Courtney Milan is literally the reason there is a dinosaur emoji. Second of all, she actually created the Chinese telegraphic code in the book (the theory of it, anyway). Like, whAt? (Those […]

A Romance Classic

What I Did For a Duke (Pennyroal Green, #5) by Julie Anne Long

July 6, 2021 by narfna 3 Comments

**30 Books in 30 Days** Book 6/30 This was very, very good. There isn’t *really* a plot, but in this case, that’s a good thing. What this is, is a character piece. The movement of the story comes with the evolution of the characters’ feelings for each other. (Much in the way comedies of manners do it.) It’s got a great set-up, though. Alex Moncrieffe, the Duke of Falconbridge, finds his fiancé in bed with Ian Eversea, and chases Eversea out the window, buck-ass nude. […]
