“Someone poisoned you last night,” I said bluntly. He looked thunderstruck, then hurt. “It was my birthday party.”

Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett

January 3, 2024 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands is as enjoyable a read as it’s predecessor, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faerie. I found that I liked spending time with Emily, Wendell, and Shadow even in the places where the plot dragged a bit. Emily is as prickly as ever, and I love her all the more for it. The marriage proposal remains unanswered, but Wendell remains delighted by her. I only wish there had been a few more of the “my dear dragon” endearments. Emily and Wendell […]

4.5 stars Spoiler warning! There will be some spoilers in this review for the first book in the series, so if you’re not caught up, stop what you’re doing and go read Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries immediately. This review will be here when you return. Emily Wilde is back at her university in Cambridge, pleased with the success of her Faerie Encyclopedia. The proposal from her best friend Wendell Bambleby is still something she needs to consider, but after having her suspicions confirmed, that […]

A Book Cover that looks like an old-school Faerie Tale Story Book

We will present our findings together. I will impress my sponsor. You will make a name for yourself and set the scientific community clamouring for your book, which I understand is out next year.

Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

Recently, the way I use audiobooks has changed. I most often listen to books I’ve already read in print, rather than my previous habit of listening to long sci-fi and fantasy, or non-fiction books. I blame the pandemic, which has permanently changed my brain (I miss tv shows and movies, but my brain won’t go there). Regardless, I acquired the audiobook version of Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries and listened while I baked batches of cookies and loaves of bread. No apple cakes or pies, though. […]

Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

4.5 stars CBR15 Bingo: History (set in an alternate history, in the Victorian era) 15-word review: Introverted lady scholar goes to fictional Iceland to research faeries, followed by her handsome colleague. Official book description (because I finished this at the start of May): Cambridge professor Emily Wilde is good at many things: She is the foremost expert on the study of faeries. She is a genius scholar and a meticulous researcher who is writing the world’s first encyclopaedia of faerie lore. But Emily Wilde is […]

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries (Emily Wilde, #1) by Heather Fawcett

Kicking myself for not writing this review immediately after finishing this book. I was on such a book high and now it’s been two months, and my brain is useless. Because I really want to do this one justice! I want more people to read it and enjoy it like I did. Emily Wilde is a scholar, and her field of study is faeries. She is aiming to write the first comprehensive encylopaedia of faeries that has ever been published. On a scholarly research trip […]

Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

February 2, 2023 by RevGirlUtena 2 Comments

Emily Wilde is a Cambridge Professor who specializes in Dryadology, the study of Faeries. This includes all kinds of Faeries, from cute little Brownies to the more fearsome “Hidden Ones” who are known to steal people away to the world of Faerie. She has been traveling the world, attempting to create the world’s first Encylopaedia of Faeries, and she only has one more place to visit, the frozen town of Hrafnsvik, in the country of Ljosland. Unfortunately, the town is incredibly insular and Emily has […]
