You Can Never Die: A Graphic Memoir by Harry Bliss

February 20, 2025 by BlackRaven 2 Comments

I learned early on in my journey of reading Harry Bliss that there are two styles when it comes to his artwork. One is kid friendly and the other adult friendly. However, via an online reader copy of You Can Never Die: A Graphic Memoir, I learned there is a third type to Bliss: the really adult Bliss. This memoir takes slices of life and puts them on the page of a journal. These journal entries, illustrations and more come out in the book. He […]

A Wealth of Pigeons: A Cartoon Collection by Steve Martin

November 25, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I should have realized that even though Harry Bliss was the illustrator, the fact Steve Martin was involved would make A Wealth of Pigeons: A Cartoon Collection more of an adult book. I guess I assumed that it would be like several other actors, singers, artists who have ventured into “Children’s Land” with a picture book. Yet, I was not disappointed. Some of the jokes presented are funny, some hilarious and some fall flat. It is up to the reader which is which. The entire […]

Louise is a brave, fearless, feathered chicken. Yes. Chicken.

September 17, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Louise wants adventure. So, she leaves her cozy home and journey out into the wide world. She finds pirates, sunken ships, ferocious lions, circus fun and one exotic land where her sister chickens are held captive!   Yes, chickens. Louise is a brave, fearless, feathered chicken.   Kate DiCamillo and Harry Bliss had teamed up before Good Rosie! with Louise, The Adventures of a Chicken. The great humor of DiCamillo’s text is paired with the signature humorous illustrations of Bliss. Our fearless Louise’s story is […]

While I’ll miss them coming to my store, I did not miss their gem of a book!

September 11, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Good Rosie is the latest picture book by author Kate DiCamillo and illustrator Harry Bliss. It is an interesting take on a new situation scenario where the child (or in this case, dog) is lonely and would like to make friends but is nervous about making these new friends. This new situation could because the child/dog is going to a new school, it is their first day of school or they are going to the child/dog park.   While you can see the illustrations are […]
