“Buffering is that time you spend waiting for the pixels of your life to crystallize into a clearer picture; it’s a time of reflection, a time of pause, a time for regaining your composure or readjusting your course. We all have a limited amount of mental and emotional bandwidth, and some of life’s episodes take a long time to fully load.” I don’t YouTube. I haven’t spent much time on the various channels put together by “Content Creators” like Hannah Hart but I do respect […]
“I’m proud to be a work in progress.”
I downloaded this audiobook because someone on here reviewed it favorably (I’m 5 reviews behind so I’m not going to take the time to look up who, but thanks!) and I needed something to listen to while I’m waiting for my next Audible credit to spend on Outlander. I had no idea that Hannah Hart was the Drunk Kitchen chick, despite having recently read the Drunk Kitchen cookbook. The cookbook was fun and all, but this autobiography was excellent. I’d highly recommend the audio version, read by the author […]
Read it for the puns, not the recipes
I have never watched Hannah Hart’s YouTube channel, in which she gets drunk and cooks things — although that does sound like fun. This book is not a cookbook, but rather a sort of rambling version of those videos (which presumably also ramble). She does include some recipes, but you’re not going to want to cook them, I promise. The puns are a lot of fun though, if you like your puns terrible and groan-worthy (as I do). “What do you call it when you drink […]
This kid has had a rough life, I tell you what.
I shoulda done the audio on this one. I’m so used to hearing Hannah’s voice from her own mouth (long time My Drunk Kitchen watcher, since episode 5), I’m sure it would have smoothed over the issues I had with the style this one is written in. It felt simultaneously overwritten and underwritten at various points, like the voice wasn’t completely comfortable with itself. But any issues with the writing aside, it’s hard not to get sucked in to Hannah’s story. She tells it in […]
Enthusiasm! Puns! Twenty-Something Life Advice!
(This post originally appeared on Persephone Magazine.) Though I admit to not being all that well-versed in “My Drunk Kitchen” the video series, I still wanted to see how Hannah Hart’s humor translated into book form. I might have aged out of some of this life advice, but her enthusiasm and love of puns still won me over. “[T]his book is about self-improvement and maybe it can improve itself as it goes along,” Hannah Hart writes in the introduction. “Has a cookbook ever been self-aware? […]
Suggestipe: Read this book
I assume, at this point, that just about everyone on the Internets has seen at least one episode of My Drunk Kitchen, starring the lovely Hannah Hart. If you have not, may I suggest this banana bread episode, also starring Grace Helbig? (“We’ll find out!”) But, let’s just assume that you’ve seen an episode or two, or that -if you haven’t – my explanation that MDK is basically about a rambly, philosophizing, goofily drunk host who hangs out with her friends, LOVES TO USE PUNS, […]
